Poll: What will Apple announce tomorrow?

Let’s keep this simple as you probably already know the back story on all these possible announcements already. But we’ve already weighed in with our thoughts, but we’re curious what you, the well-informed consumer, thinks will be announced by Apple tomorrow. And boy there is a lot of possibilities. What will Apple announce tomorrow? iPods with cameras Who [...]

  • Why is The Beatles on iTunes such a big deal?

Why is The Beatles on iTunes such a big deal?

If we assume that next week's Apple event will have something to do with The Beatles—and we have to assume that, otherwise this post has no value (not to say that it does, mind you)—then I have to ask: what's the big deal? Obviously, being the first (and only?) online music store that has The Beatles will be something of a coup, for at least the first day. You can picture the articles and posts now: “Apple meets Apple: Beatles on iTunes,” “iTunes just won my $9.99: Beatles on iTunes,” etc.

    Review: AKG K 340 in-canal headphones

Mid- and high-end headphones are everywhere these days. AKG, previously known for recording and broadcast equipment, just added to the bunch by outing a slew of headphones, including these totally acceptable $119 K 340 in-canal buds. I’ve spent some good listening time with them, and I have to say that they are solid performers once [...]

1 to 10, how excited are you about The Beatles: Rock Band?

How did we miss this, a nine-page article in the New York Times about The Beatles: Rock Band? Is it overkill? Perhaps. Rock Band isn't exactly new, and The Beatles aren't exactly some unsigned band, but you have to consider the Times' audience: older folks who probably saw The Beatles live at Shea Stadium, and who would be genuinely excited to see the band show up on iTunes one day (despite the fact that ripping their CDs is quite simple).

Wireless Xbox 360 mic coming this Fall

Coming this Fall from Microsoft is a wireless mic that’s compatible with Lips, Guitar Hero Metallica, Rock Band 2, Disney Sing it: HSM 3, and the upcoming Lips: Number One Hits and The Beatles: Rock Band. My guess is the mic will launch just before or at the same time as The Beatles: RB, but [...]

If you plan on pre-ordering The Beatles: Rock Band then allow me to I suggest you do so with Gamestop. No, I was not paid to say this, but I think it’s a pretty good considering they will throw in three free DLC tracks and a code for an in-game photo album. Supplies are limited [...]

    E3 2009: Lionhead’s Project Milo

Raise your hand if you thought Microsoft’s press conference was a bit of a bore this morning? Aside from Natal, I wasn’t all that impressed by any of the upcoming titles (except for Conviction and maybe The Beatles Rock Band) or the updates to Xbox Live. Lionhead really stole the show when they unveiled a little AI boy named Milo.

Guitar Hero 5 hits the streets September 1st, one week before the Fab Four

Yeah, you heard it right: another volume of Guitar Hero -- the game you either love to hate or love to love -- is making its debut on September 1st. This one, Guitar Hero 5, promises a bunch of features that are party friendly, such as the ability to play through sets with no players actively playing, allowing anyone to join in at any time -- because we all know how many ragers are built around GH, right? It's probably no coincidence that the release date comes exactly one week before that other music game, The Beatles: Rock Band. So, which one are you buying?

Mad Catz’s wireless Fender Rock Band bass to ship soon

Just when you'd given up all hope that Mad Catz would ever ship its Fender Precision Bass for Rock Band, in flies this. If you'll recall, said axe was originally introduced to the world in September of last year, and with a certain Beatles-inspired bass set to ship in the ninth month of this year, Mad Catz obviously felt the time was right to cease its dilly-dallying. According to company CEO Darren Richardson, the wireless Fender bass for Rock Band will ship "later this month," which should mean that it'll be hitting store shelves over the weekend. In related news, the company has inked a multi-year licensing agreement with Microsoft that will allow it to "manufacture, market and sell Xbox 360-branded wireless specialty videogame controllers." Fun for them, yeah?

  • Guitar Hero 5 slated for September launch

Guitar Hero 5 slated for September launch

Activision has declared war against the most popular band of all freakin’ time. The fifth installment in the Guitar Hero franchise (aside from the band specific titles) goes on sale September 1st, which is eight days before The Beatles: Rock Band hits store shelves. Oh boy! If I were a betting man, I’d say the The Beatles are going to sweep this round.
