iPhone 4 arrives at Walmart (update: and Best Buy!)
Posted on June 22, 2010 | No CommentsCheck out that sweet, sweet box. Yes folks, we seem to have received our very first in-the-cardboard picture of the retail iPhone 4 out in the wild. We don't work at Walmart, so we can't verify this one for ourselves, but our tipster says Apple's latest phone has just landed in the big box retailer's storehouses.
P.S. -- Before you start frothing at the mouth, the CDMA coding on the box in the background relates to an LG 290C handset also stocked by Walmart.
Update: A shot of a Best Buy arrival is past the break.Continue reading iPhone 4 arrives at Walmart (update: and Best Buy!)

Best Buy iPhone inventory details leak
Posted on June 21, 2010 | No Comments
Looks like Best Buy's inventory details for the iPhone 4 launch have leaked out, and -- if you were one of the many unlucky iPhone luvahs that were unable to place a pre-order last week -- you may want to plan your June 24th around the details.
The skinny of it is that most stores are receiving anywhere between 20 and 70 phones.

HTC Aria slipping out early into AT&T stores
Posted on June 18, 2010 | 1 CommentGood news, Android fans! HTC's Aria -- arguably the first Google-fied phone on AT&T worth caring about -- is seemingly slipping onto carrier floors a few days early. As the story goes, the Sense-equipped, Android 2.1-powered handset was supposed to go on sale this Sunday, but based on these unboxing shots from a giddy tipster, it's clearly ready to be procured early in some locations. Still unsure if it's worth your $129.99 on contract? Have a peek at our review right here.
Update: We're also hearing through the grapevine that these are in stock in certain Best Buy Mobile locations.

White HTC EVO 4G coming exclusively to Best Buy on July 11th, pre-orders start today
Posted on June 18, 2010 | No CommentsJumpin' Jehosaphat! Just when you thought America's first 4G phone couldn't get any hotter, along comes this: a striking white version of the HTC EVO 4G (so much for that unavailable white iPhone 4, eh?). We've received confirmation that this here handset will be sold exclusively through Best Buy (as in, don't even bother heading to your local Sprint store), with the official launch date set for July 11th. We're told that Sprint will eventually gain access on August 8th, with other retailers snapping it up in September. If you somehow managed to hold off on snagging the existing black EVO 4G, you can get your pre-order in starting on June 18th -- yeah, today, Junior! We're assuming the price will remain at $199.99 on a 2-year contract, but be sure to drop us a line if you wander in and find out otherwise.
Update: And it's official; the presser is after the break confirming the same $199.99-on-a-2-year-contract price as well as the dates mentioned already.

iPhone 4 Already Sold Out? FML
Posted on June 15, 2010 | No Comments
Well this comes as a surprise. After fighting all day to order the new iPhone, I gave up, and decided to wait until tomorrow. That is, until I read that the entire pre-order allocation was already sold out. How was anyone able to buy the phone much less buy up every single one?

iPhone 4 pre-orderers overwhelm servers, world on the brink of ending
Posted on June 15, 2010 | No CommentsLook up at the sky -- is it falling? It sure seems as if that kind of doom is imminent, at least if this whole iPhone 4 pre-order situation is any indication of future tragedy. We've received hundreds of tips this morning from friends near and far that iPhone 4 pre-orders aren't going through, though a few of us here on staff were able to get a confirmation during the wee hours of the morning. From AT&T in the US to O2 over in the UK, it seems that just about everyone ambling to get their name on a future iPhone 4 is experiencing a great deal of frustration. AT&T's servers seem to be completely hosed here in America, and since Apple's own online order process has to ping those to check on your contract status, neither option is... um, working. Those who decided to line up at a local store are facing similar issues; employees aren't even able to fully process pre-orders in store due to systems being overwhelmed, and no one seems to exactly know when things will be back to normal. And you thought the most enraging part of this was the inability to select a white model. Let us know how your experience has been in the poll and comments below, won't you?
Update: So, it sounds like Best Buy is taking pre-orders (even for white units), but chances are remarkably high that you're not actually getting in any line. Still, it's a working option for the moment. In other news, the Apple Store app is seeming to allow iPhone 4 orders, but it looks as if they're reserving off-contract phones (read: full price ones), so we'd only recommend this avenue if you enjoy things like "arguing about contract dates" and "yelling at brick walls." We're guessing you'll be doing both on the 24th.

iPhone 4 at Best Buy for launch, at least 45 devices per store?
Posted on June 8, 2010 | No CommentsThe iPhone 4 at Best Buy on launch day? It'd be no surprise, really -- after all, the retail giant had both the iPhone 3GS and iPad right from the get-go. We just got word from one of our trusted sources that Best Buy will indeed have the newfangled phone at launch, and even better, we've got some details on the inventory. A minimum of 30 units for the 32GB device and 15 of the 16GB will apparently be available at each store, and employee purchases are banned at launch. We can't say for sure without more paperwork, but this source has been pretty reliable before -- if nothing else, it should give you a decent idea just how early you should be preparing to wait in line.
Oh, and RadioShack fanatics? Yeah, we've heard you can head down there for launch, too, but we don't yet have a clue as to how many will be in stock.iPhone 4 at Best Buy for launch, at least 45 devices per store? originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 08 Jun 2010 22:34:00 EST. A little over the top right there, but anyway: you can now purchase the HTC EVO 4G at Sprint.com, Sprint retail stores, at RadioShack, Best Buy and Walmart. The device sells for $199.99 with a two-year service agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new line activation or upgrade.

Boost Mobile launches Motorola i1 on June 20
Posted on June 3, 2010 | No CommentsSince the Android-powered i1 was originally announced for Sprint's Direct Connect service, you might've assumed that it'd be the first to get a hard launch date -- but subsidiary Boost Mobile is breaking that news first for some reason with the announcement today that the phone is coming June 20 in Boost retail stores plus Bust Buy locations. Pricing hasn't been announced, but Best Buy had previously teased it for $350, so we wouldn't expect this to be a cheap purchase; then again, you've gotta remember that it's coming at you contract-free. Not like you'll be unlocking it and taking it to another iDEN network either way, right?Boost Mobile launches Motorola i1 on June 20 originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Thu, 03 Jun 2010 12:08:00 EST. HTC EVO 4Gs flooding into Best Buys, some Radio Shacks opening at 6AM on Friday
Posted on June 2, 2010 | No CommentsEVO fever -- have you caught it? Things are seriously starting to ramp up in preparation for Friday's festivities, the day that Sprint's EVO 4G hits shelves (though most will likely be sold before they even touch a shelf, truth be told). Radio Shack hit us up with the knowledge earlier today that it'll be opening some locations as early as 6AM -- and what's more, they claim to have "specifically set aside" some units for folks who didn't pre-order, so that might be your best chance. We're also getting a bunch of shots from tipsters who say their Best Buy locations have started taking delivery of the retail units, so at least you'll know they'll be in stock on Friday -- but for how long is another question altogether.
[Thanks to everyone who sent these in!]
