Video: Medal of Honor multi-player beta videos

Medal of Honor, also known as Modern Warfare With Beards, has a public multi-player beta that's happening right now. It's exciting! (But not as exciting as seeing Italy knocked out of the World Cup.) GameTrailers has a couple of videos of the multi-player beta in action that may interest you. Hey, at least it's not iPhone 4-related!

  • Emblaze’s First Else in danger of becoming a smoldering slab of vaporware?

Emblaze’s First Else in danger of becoming a smoldering slab of vaporware?

We have word from an industry insider that the First Else handset running the ALP OS is in trouble. Not a surprise since Emblaze, the company behind the handset, has been dead quiet about Else ever since CES where it promised a March beta and Q2 launch. From what we hear, the software simply isn't ready and Emblaze has been unable to sign on any major carriers as the components continue to age inside a cellphone first demonstrated in November of 2009.

We've also been told that Emblaze has instructed its employees not to speak to the press about First Else. And indeed, when we called the number that formerly belonged to the Emblaze Mobile marketing manager we were greeted with a very casual "hello" without any mention of the company or the person with whom we were speaking. After confirming that we were indeed speaking with Emblaze Mobile, we related the news about First Else and were promptly transfered to the voicemail of Emblaze's legal representation. Curious don't you think? Your move Emblaze.

  • iOS 4 gold works with any compatible iPhone / iPod touch via iTunes 9.2, jailbreak also updated

iOS 4 gold works with any compatible iPhone / iPod touch via iTunes 9.2, jailbreak also updated

Want to get your hands on an iOS 4-equipped device now without being a registered Apple developer? As a number of readers have pointed out, it seems yesterday's gold build release works on any applicable iPhone / iPod touch whether or not its UDID has been sent to the dev center. Now that the previous restraint has been lifted, the only requirement now is a copy of iTunes 9.2 -- currently for Macs only and still blocked by the developer gate, but once you manage to obtain the appropriate files, the only thing in your path is time itself. Sure enough, we just got through installing the build on an unregistered iPhone without a hitch. Details available via Gumball Tech, and please, don't forget to back up your data ahead of time.

In less rule-abiding news, the not-quite-surgical hand of the jailbreak community has taken a gander at the gold. A developer known as msft.guy, whose previous credentials includes recently-released binary "which enabled blacksn0w unlock port for iPhone 3GS on iOS 4 Beta 4" according to Redmond Pie, has updated PwnageTool for yesterday's update. As always, proceed with that one at your own risk, and if you're curious but hesitant, the ever-reliable iPhone Dev Team promise a full jailbreak / unlock suite later this month. Either way, video proof is available after the break.

Update: Just to clarify, iOS 4 now works with any iPhone / iPod touch that's already been proven compatible -- the trick here is that you now don't need to register with Apple before trying.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

iOS 4 gold build now available to iPhone Developer Program members

You've got to wait a couple weeks to get this if you're the run-of-the-mill iPhone type -- but if you've ponied up the Benjamin for an iPhone Developer Program membership (who's probably suffered through a handful of iPhone OS 4 beta builds over the last few months), you're now able to download the Gold Master seed of iOS 4 directly from Apple's site. Let us know if you manage to sprout a front-facing cam on your 3GS to test FaceTime or anything cool like that, alright?

Critical Adobe flaw: Still want Flash on your iPhone and iPad?

Adobe has warned users that a critical flaw exists in its Flash, Adobe Reader, and Adobe Acrobat software, and it affects every single platform—Mac, Windows, Linux, Solaris, you name it. Should a "hacker" exploit the flaw, he or she could take control of your entire system. Not to defer to Apple's wisdom, but do you really want such a flaky piece of software running on your iPhone or iPad?

Beginning with this fall's expansion, Lord of the Rings Online, the MMO developed by Turbine, will be totally free to play! Meaning, you download the game for free and can play online for free. Free as in beer, folks.

  • Adobe AIR getting native Android app compilation

Adobe AIR getting native Android app compilation

Sound familiar? That's right: Adobe's looking to move some of the same technologies it developed for Flash-to-iPhone app compilation over to Android, where we imagine the company will be meeting a much more receptive audience. AIR -- part of the Flash portfolio of products -- now has a native Android app feature in beta, letting you pump out .apk files from code written in ActionScript 3. Adobe's targeting a release "by the second half" of the year, so this shouldn't take too long to go gold... not to say there aren't perfectly good ways of pumping out Android apps in the meantime, but this should make it a little less painful for seasoned Flash guys to port their stuff.

    [Thanks, bono]

What do you call alliteration when every word in the sentence starts with the same two letters, as in the headline above? Is there a word for it? If not, I propose ultralliteration. • Flash kills browsing in Android 2.2 Froyo

Flash kills browsing in Android 2.2 Froyo

Brian at PocketNow posted a browser comparison video showing the iPhone, the Nexus One, and the HTC HD2 all viewing the same websites. He installed Froyo on the Nexus One and downloaded the Flash beta which allows him to run almost all Flash content. It's really long. While I do enjoy a long video of a man playing with Android phones, 11 minutes worth of a man playing with phones (found after the jump) might be a bit tiring. However, the money shot comes at about 1:40 where you see some Flash games playing in the wild. I think the most interesting part of that part of the video is how close Flash games running on a good processer are to standard, natively written games. So fine, you say, things look great. Why not run Flash?

Flash 10.1 for Android beta unveiled: Hulu a no-show, Froyo now a minimum requirement

    digg_url = 'http://digg.com/tech_news/Flash_10_1_for_Android_beta_unveiled_Hulu_a_no_show_Froyo';
What was once just one echelon above a myth is now finally coming to fruition. Adobe is pushing out a beta of its Flash 10.1 player alongside Google's own beta for Android 2.2 "Froyo." The general release for Flash is still on track for June, according to Anup Murarka of the Mobile and Devices team. The announcement doesn't come without caveats, however, and the bad news is that Froyo is now a minimum requirement -- according to Murarka, the APIs needed for its software only now exist in 2.2. Also not on the docket? Hulu -- it's being blocked due to content licensing issues, and our inquiries with that company turned up nil. Flash 10.1 will be available as a Marketplace download, but Adobe intends to work with as many OEMs as possible to preload it on devices so it's there at purchase. Speaking of OEMs, Murarka teased that we should expect announcements later this month and the next regarding Flash integration in TVs. Be sure to head on after the break as we talk a little more in-depth with Murarka about 10.1.

As for all there is to see, hear, and do with Froyo, Google's big keynote is going on now -- stay tuned, and in the meantime, why not check out our hands-on impressions of Android 2.2! Oh, and did we mention Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch is gonna be on this week's Engadget Show?
