And now begins the BioShock MMO rumors
Posted on April 15, 2010 | No CommentsAny of y'all beat BioShock 2? Me neither. Played it for, eh, 20 minutes, then moved onto Napoleon: Total War. Don't worry, though: the game is on my "to do" list. Also on my "to-do" list: whinge about an MMO based on BioShock.

On Amazon: Buy BioShock 2, get BioShock 1 for free
Posted on March 30, 2010 | No CommentsPretty neat deal on Amazon today. When you buy BioShock 2 (for Xbox 360), and add BioShock 1 to your shopping cart, you end up getting the latter for free. Or, in English, buy BioShock 2, get BioShock 1 for free! $60 for two pretty good games isn’t a bad deal at all. I don’t [...] -
Switzerland approaches complete ban on violent video games
Posted on March 22, 2010 | No CommentsThat's funny, not one hour ago I mentioned that Australia had embraced the idea that adults have the capacity to make decisions vis-à-vis buying violent video games. Good ol' Switzerland, though, the darling of Europe, has passed a law essentially outlawing violent video games. I'd feign, well, not anger, but something, but it's Switzerland: how can you get mad at those guys?

Bravo to Epic Games for porting Unreal Engine 3 to the iPhone
Posted on March 10, 2010 | No CommentsDon't get mad at me—I wanted to go to GDC, but The Man said no. So now we're relying on CNET to bring us word of Epic Games' efforts to bring the Unreal Engine to the iPhone. You may not have even played Unreal for several years, but plenty of big games are based on the engine. Mass Effect and BioShock are based on versions of the engine, as is EA's upcoming Medal of Honor. Just think: playing Unreal on your iPhone. It's almost... unreal.

BioShock 2: Great, good, or sorta meh?
Posted on February 9, 2010 | No CommentsSo, BioShock 2. Presumably you've heard of it. It comes out today, and I really can't figure out how I'm supposed to feel. I've read plenty of reviews—Rock, Paper, Shotgun's is my favorite—and they're sorta all over the place. We weren't cool enough to get a review copy, but that's not a big deal; Steam to the rescue.

FarCry, Far Cry 2 $15 bundle on Steam this weekend
Posted on February 5, 2010 | No CommentsStupid Steam, making me spend money whenI had no intention of doing so. This weekend’s deal is the FarCry collection, which includes FarCry and FarCry 2: Fortune’s Edition (includes DLC and other bonus items). (Of course, you could have just visited that Web site I mentioned the other day.) It costs $15. Yeah, I can [...] -
Where were you when the Xbox 360 version of BioShock 2 leaked? (Because it just did, you see.)
Posted on February 4, 2010 | No CommentsFive days. We’re a whopping five days away from the game’s official release date, but BioShock 2, the second truly big game of the year (the other being Mass Effect 2) has now leaked. Well, the Xbox 360 version, that is. It’s found where these type of things can be found, and I only mention [...] -

What’s it going to take for PC game publishers to drop DRM altogether?
Posted on January 28, 2010 | No CommentsFor all of its stupidity, the music industry should be commended for relaxing its DRM requirements. Every single song on iTunes is DRM-free, as are the songs on Amazon MP3 and electronic music specialist Beatport. The Zune Marketplace works a little differently, but many of the downloadable songs there are DRM-free, too. But PC game publishers? They're still bat-shit crazy, as evidenced by the DRM requirements of BioShock 2 and presumably every single one of Ubisoft's upcoming releases. What's it going to take for PC publishers to step back and realize that DRM does absolutely nothing to prevent piracy? Not only that, but that it encourages piracy because the pirated version of the game ends up being superior to the legitimate copy?
Oh,
