Outrage: Man loses finger during iPad robbery
Posted on April 21, 2010 | No CommentsApple says the iPad is "magical and revolutionary," but I don't know if it's worth losing a finger over. A man in Denver purchased an iPad for a business associate—he didn't even know what an iPad was—and as he was exiting the mall another man came up to him and ripped the bag away, severing his finger in the process. Sigh.

Denon’s S-5BD combines a BD player and 5.1 receiver for fun and profit
Posted on January 7, 2010 | No Comments
All-in-one solutions are nothing new. Hell, Walmart sells them, but that term is generally reserved for lower-market products, not something from a top-tier audio brands. Denon doesn't care about that stereotype though. The companies new S-5BD is a Blu-ray player and high-end audio receiver. All-in-one!

Online Holiday Spending Reaches $25 Billion; Shows Strong Growth In Consumer Electronics Sales
Posted on December 30, 2009 | No Comments
The numbers are in. And they look good. It appears that online holiday spending rose slightly this year, by 5 percent, to $27 billion for the shopping season from November 1 through Christmas Eve, according to comScore. For the time period from Black Friday through Christmas Eve, sales showed a slight uptick, rising 3.5 percent. With respect to individual product categories, consumer electronics saw yearly sales growth of slightly over 20 percent, while sales of jewelry and watches also rose.
From reports over the past few months, the numbers indicated that the total online spending would be higher this year than last, when the U.S. spending was blindsided with a crippling recession. The final shopping weekend before Christmas saw a 13 percent growth rate in online spending from the previous year, thanks to the wintry mess that hit the Eastern Seaboard. And the full week posted a 6 percent yearly increase in spending, setting a one-week sales record with more than $4.8 billion in spending. Online sales numbers from Black Friday and Cyber Monday also appeared to be stronger than last year.

Happy Thanksgiving: Sony sells some 400,000 PS3s last week
Posted on December 1, 2009 | No CommentsThis may be the first holiday season in a long time that Sony is looking forward to. Some 440,000 PS3s were sold last week (compared to 550,000 Nintendo Wiis), and Sony says demand for the system was at “an all-time high.” Good thing for that price cut and re-design, right?

Presenting a collection of Cyber Monday deals for your perusal
Posted on November 30, 2009 | No Comments
Today is Cyber Monday. It’s like Black Friday but with more indoorsiness. And while Black Friday is more of a brick-and-mortar, you’re-there-in-person type of thing, Cyber Monday is all online and there are far too many stores and deals to completely cover. Here’s a head start on some of the better deals from the bigger sites, though.

Droid Eris available for $30, shuns Black Friday theatrics
Posted on November 27, 2009 | No CommentsFrom everything we can tell, this new Droid Eris deal has nothing to do with the day after Thanksgiving and everything to do with the pure insanity of Walmart Wireless / LetsTalk.com. The same people that brought us the $30 Pixi have slashed the $99 Eris down to $30, which does wonders for removing the Eris from regular Droid comparisons. Judged purely on its own merits, $30 is a pretty smashing price for this handset, but in two years when that hefty Verizon contract is up it's probably going to seem even more outdated by new versions of Android and faster processors than it does now.

Consumer spending during the holiday retail season, beginning with Black Friday, is among the most important predictors of U.S. economic health. Since the late 90s, tracking online sales of websites like amazon.com on the first Monday after Thanksgiving, Cyber Monday, has become a second important barometer. The National Retail Federation, the world's leading retail trade group, extrapolated that total spending for this year’s Black Friday “weekend,” Thursday-to-Sunday, was up 0.5% from a year ago. Additionally, Lazard Capital reported Cyber Monday sales were up strongly over last year, by 35%.
