Apple: white iPhone 4 not available until second half of July, ‘more challenging to manufacture than expected’
Posted on June 23, 2010 | No CommentsWell, it looks like you can put those conspiracy theories to rest... or can you? Apple has just put out an official statement on the nowhere to be found white iPhone 4, which it now says will not be available until the "second half of July." What's the holdup? Apparently, the white models have "proven more challenging to manufacture than expected" -- but don't worry, Apple assures us that "availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected." Complete statement (which you've mostly just read) is as follows:Statement by Apple on White iPhone 4
White models of Apple's new iPhone(R) 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected, and as a result they will not be available until the second half of July. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.Apple: white iPhone 4 not available until second half of July, 'more challenging to manufacture than expected' originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 23 Jun 2010 14:20:00 EST. White iPhone 4 casing shows up in yet more photos
Posted on June 2, 2010 | No CommentsSteve Jobs didn't seem too upset over the story of the lost / stolen iPhone 4 last night at D8, so we're sure he won't mind that yet more parts for his next-gen phone have leaked out -- this time PowerBookMedic.com has scored the white version of the casing. As usual, the Engadget staff is now in a fierce and somewhat disturbingly violent debate over the relative style merits of black and white iPhones, so don't look for us to get much done for the rest of the day. Many more pics at the source link.White iPhone 4 casing shows up in yet more photos originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 02 Jun 2010 14:32:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Nothing black about these berries: T-Mobile outs fuchsia Curve 8520, white Bold 9700
Posted on May 20, 2010 | No Comments
We kind of already had a hunch on this one, but it's totally official now: the "fuchsia" version of RIM's BlackBerry Curve 8520 is now totally real and available on T-Mobile for $49.99 on a two-year deal (interestingly, you can get either the black or the white versions for free, so you'd better really want the red). Alongside that, the Bold 9700 is getting repainted in white -- a trick we've seen before with the original Bold 9000 -- on May 26 for $129.99 on contract. Oh, and that Bold will come loaded with BlackBerry OS 5.0.586, an update that's now available to existing customers as well. High fives all around -- at least until 6 drops, right?Nothing black about these berries: T-Mobile outs fuchsia Curve 8520, white Bold 9700 originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Thu, 20 May 2010 17:22:00 EST. The Microsoft Arc keyboard is now available in a pleasant white/lime theme
Posted on April 13, 2010 | No Comments
Fun fact: I'm typing this post on the black Microsoft Arc keyboard! I just bought the black version from Best Buy and like it good enough. But maybe black isn't your thing. Or you gave up shopping at Best Buy which was previously the Arc keyboard's exclusive retailer. Well then, I have good news, friends. Amazon will soon offer the Arc keyboard in a white and lime.

Microsoft Stores coming to Denver and San Diego
Posted on April 1, 2010 | No Comments
Right now there are only two Microsoft retail outlets, one in Phoenix, AZ and another in Mission Viejo, CA. These locations opened last year to much singing and dancing, but soon there will be two more. According to a job posting on Microsoft's site, Denver and San Diego will soon be home to their very own Microsoft Stores.

Toner-, ink- and paperless printer (video)
Posted on February 8, 2010 | No CommentsA Japanese company called Sanwa Newtec has developed a printer that works without toners, ink or (copy) paper. ThePrePeat RP-3100 is rather based on a line thermal head and special paper that's made of PET plastic and can be reused over and over again. In other words, if you have a sheet that you don't need any longer you can insert it back into the printer (where it gets "cleaned") and immediately print out a new document in one go. Each of those special sheets can be used 1,000 times, saving not only the costs for 1,000 sheets of copy paper but also 5.7kg of CO2 for the environment.

Asus getting into the e-reader game in a big way
Posted on January 17, 2010 | No Comments
Asus leaked some information recently about their upcoming e-reader, the DR-570. Not content to be a "me too" with the standard black and white e-ink product, it looks like they are going to be coming out with an OLED offering that might just kick the rest of the e-readers to the curb.

Old and busted: e-ink; New hotness: e-skin
Posted on December 9, 2009 | No Comments
E-ink is cool, sure, but it's still largely a black-and-white technology. Philips Research has moved into the color realm with what they're calling e-skin. “The first applications using the technology could be e-skins for small devices such as MP3 players or cell phones. However, the technology is highly scalable,” says Kars-Michiel Lenssen, Principal Scientist at Philips Research. The vision from Philips is an e-skin on your portable device that can be changed to match your outfit or your mood with the press of a button.

Now in more colors: Pig-shaped earphones
Posted on November 11, 2009 | No CommentsSome Japanese gadget freaks do have a penchant for weird earphones, that's for sure, meaning these things actually seem to sell. I doubt that otherwise, Tokyo-based accessory maker Greenhouse would have updated the buta (piggy) earphones they gave us in June 2008. It's not a technical update but the same earphones are available in purple and orange now (see the picture above).

Japan gets the Pentax K-x in “robotic colors” (limited edition)
Posted on October 16, 2009 | No Comments
The Pentax K-x was announced last month, and it seems to be a very decent entry-level camera. We already reported the device will be available in a few different colors in Japan, while the US only gets black, white, and red models. And today Pentax said in Tokyo [JP], they are ready to roll out a very special version of the K-x, which is a particularly colorful model inspired by the so-called Kore Ja Nai robo toy [JP].

Posted on September 17, 2009 | No CommentsPentax just rolled out the K-x late last night, but the official announcement only mentioned black, white, and red models. Bor-ing.
