Flash ported to the iPod Touch, in a manner of speaking

Sure it looks horrible and the video is awful, but believe us when we tell you that the same guys who created the Spirit jailbreak have ported Flash to the iPhone. The video, apparently taken through the pinhole camera truck the Bloodhound Gang built back in the 1980s to see where they were [...]

HTC Evo 4G to get an HDMI dock

We’ll start with the bad news: according to some early stage testing done by PCMag, the HDMI output on the HTC Evo might kinda-sorta suck. While they haven’t quite pinned down the source of their woes, various TVs are all showing various issues. On the upside: it looks like the HTC Evo is getting a fancy-pants [...]

Screen Grabs: Gossip Girl’s Nate Archibald drops a blast from Kin Two

Screen Grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today's movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dt com.

Given Microsoft's Generation Upload marketing and Verizon's exclusive Gossip Girl placement deal, it's not surprising a Kin phone made an appearance on the show's season finale, but we're having a hard time believing that even Nate Archibald is chump enough to trade in his heat-seeking Droid for a Kin Two. Not that we'd know, since we don't watch the show. At all. Ever. Video after the break.

Conan O’Brien, do you want to be a CrunchGear intern for a little while?

All of us here at CrunchGear are fairly angry at the way NBC has treated you, Conan. So here's our offer: if you and the peacock decide to part company (and you really ought to, provided the network takes care of your staff and everyone else who moved from New York to Los Angeles, and provided you walk away with some fat cash), we'd like to offer you an internship. That's right: Conan O'Brien, CrunchGear intern. That has a nice ring to it, no?

Need to boost your iPhones volume? Grab a cup.

There are hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of D.I.Y articles on the internet, some more useful than others. I read maybe a dozen or so a day, solely for the sake of expanding my knowledge bank of obscure solutions. Every once in a while, one sprouts up that is just so damned simple, so face-palmingly [...]

Smartphone Showdown: iPhone 3GS vs. Motorola Droid Round 2

My inbox is in pain. Almost immediately after I hit the publish button on last week's iPhone 3GS vs Motorola Droid Smartphone Showdown, a torrential blast of comments and questions has been barraging just about every communication inlet I've got. Phone calls. Twitter DMs. Lots, and lots, and lots of emails. Across the board, it all seems to indicate one thing: people want more. We hear you. There are a number of worthwhile topics I simply didn't get a chance to touch on, and a few observations I've made since that are worth mentioning. For those, may we present: Round 2.

  • Portable media players will have a mandatory volume limiter in Europe soon

Portable media players will have a mandatory volume limiter in Europe soon

It's expected that the European Commission will pass legislation that will require manufacturers to include a noise limiter on portable media players. This is being done, of course, because listening to said devices at extraordinarily loud volume levels is quite dangerous; up to 10 percent of users are in danger totally destroying their hearing by keeping the players on too loud.

Watch torture tests are actually quite exciting

A company called Swiss Military Watch - I've never heard of them - ran their heavy duty diver through a few clever tests including a blast from a fire hose and a close, personal connection to a stick of dynamite. The model in question, the 20,000 feet looks pretty hefty and includes a nice 7750 Valjoux movement with COSC certification. It has a large crown, heavy side cards, and is made mostly of titanium. Also it's like $4428, not amazingly bad for a Valjoux COSC-certified chrono. Plus you can shoot it.

Android hacked onto the Samsung Omnia

With a nice big 3.2″ touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera, and 624mhz CPU, the Samsung Omnia wasn’t a bad piece of hardware when it was released last year. Hell, it still outspecs most phones released today. Hardware-wise, it’s set - but on the software front, it’s luke-warm garbage. The TouchWiz interface helps a little, but deep [...]
