Atari and Cryptic anger the people who bought Star Trek Online at launch
Posted on March 1, 2010 | No Comments
Remember Star Trek Online? Yeah, it came out waaaaay back on February 2nd of 2010. Well, it's Cryptic's game, but it's published by Atari, and since there maybe hasn't been the level of interest everyone was looking for, they are running a sale. It's a pretty good deal too, since you get the game for $10 off (which isn't so bad) and you an additional 60 days of free gameplay (which is the frustrating part). That's a total of 90 days of free play, including the 30 days that come with the purchase of the game. That seems really unfair to the players who pre-ordered or bought the game when it first came out.

Man alive, the World of Warcraft economy is quite elastic!
Posted on February 22, 2010 | No CommentsThere are people out there who take to World of Warcraft's Auction House like NYU Stern graduates take to Wall Street. The Auction House, for those unawares, is a place where WoW gamers can buy and sell in-game items using in-game currency. It can be incredibly complicated, and there are entire guides dedicated to "playing" the Auction House in order to make money. I've made a fair bit of coin by merely buying items at one, low price, then re-listing them on the Auction House for a new, higher price.

Yeah, Cataclysm will come out this year
Posted on February 11, 2010 | No CommentsIt's earnings call season, and while no news is more shocking than the fact that WWE will drop the Survivor Series, there's something for World of Warcraft fans. And, really, who isn't a fan of World of Warcraft. Anyhow, yeah, Cataclysm will come out this year. We've (and by "we" I mean the WoW community) pretty much assumed as much since the expansion was first announced, but now the money men have made it official.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 soars past $1 billion in retail sales
Posted on January 13, 2010 | No CommentsRemember back a couple months? The biggest news on Earth was the Infinity Ward and Activision Blizzard screwed up MW2 and the game was going to fall into a bucket of fail. There were boycotts, petitions, and general chaos concerning the shooter. Then it launched. Then people started playing it in droves. Then people shut-up and within two months the title surpassed $1,000,000,000 in retail sales.

Blizz helps bust WoW playing drug dealer
Posted on January 2, 2010 | No Comments
You can run, but you can't hide (in cyberspace). In one of the strangest stories of 2009, it's been reported that Blizzard worked with law enforcement to help catch a drug dealer.

No, Blizzard doesn’t hate your console, leaves open the possibility of developing console games
Posted on December 21, 2009 | No Comments
Oh, look, I'm taking a single remark from a lengthy interview and making an entire post about it. It concerns Blizzard, the famed developer of World of Warcraft and Diablo. You may think of Blizzard as a PC developer, but that ignores games like The Lost Vikings. Anyhow, Blizzard has said in an interview with Gamasutra, which always does good stuff, that it is not averse to making a console game in the future, just that it needs to be the right game.

Oh boy: World of Warcraft Patch 3.3 goes live today
Posted on December 8, 2009 | No CommentsTuesdays usually stink for World of Warcraft. The servers go down early in the morning for maintenance, and then stay down well after the scheduled time more often than you'd care to see. Today doesn't stink, since Patch 3.3 is indeed dropping. I cannot wait to leave the terribly fancy TC/CG office, get home, fire up the game, then PUG till the sun comes up.

Will World of Warcraft’s Patch 3.3 drop tomorrow? Let’s hope so!
Posted on December 7, 2009 | No CommentsTomorrow could be a very big day for World of Warcraft fans. (And aren't we all WoW fans?) Yes, players from Tokyo to Toledo, from London to Lima, are terribly excited about the possible release of the latest, and last, patch for Wrath of the Lich King. It'll bring the game to version 3.3, and, more importantly, bring about the demise of Arthas. Boo, Arthas!

Blizzard starts selling in-game pets for real world money
Posted on November 4, 2009 | No CommentsReally big World of Warcraft news today, friends. (Why do I write so much about WoW? Oh, you know, it's just the biggest, most successful MMO in history. Not writing about it would be like covering tech with mentioning Microsoft or Apple.) Blizzard is now selling in-game pets that you can buy with real money, $10. We're talking cash money. Dollar dollar bill, y'all.
