CrunchDeals: Samsung Blu-ray player with Netflix for only $100
Posted on February 12, 2010 | No Comments
Isn't it grand that Blu-ray players keep dropping in price. Like this Samsung BD-P1590. First off, it's a refurb, but you still get a 3-month warrenty on a player that offers so much for the money. I would buy it.

CrunchDeals: $78 Magnavox Blu-ray player
Posted on February 5, 2010 | No Comments
Most Blu-ray players are resting comfortably well north of the $100 mark, but not this Magnavox. It's only $78 and it really does play Blu-ray movies. However, there's a bunch that it can't do, because, well, it's only $78.

Toshiba to roll out REGZA TVs with built-in Blu-ray players
Posted on January 14, 2010 | No Comments
Toshiba's first Blu-ray recorders are on their way, and the company also announced [JP] new TVs with built-in Blu-ray players today. While these TVs are nothing new (in Japanese stores, at least), it's the first time for Toshiba to offer devices like this. A recording function would have made sense, but you can only watch Blu-rays on the TVs. At least, it's possible to connect external hard discs via USB and record video on those.

Here’s an idea, stop including standard A/V cables with Blu-ray players
Posted on October 27, 2009 | No CommentsManufacturers, let me save you some money. It won’t be much, but something is better than nothing. But more importantly you would be helping out the consumers actually spending money on your products. So please, stop including standard A/V cables with Blu-ray players. We don’t need anymore of them, thankyouverymuch. Every household in America already [...] -
Blu-ray player sales up 13%, which is modest, I guess
Posted on October 19, 2009 | No Comments
Surprise, surprise, more people are buying Blu-ray players this year over last year. I guess that's to be expected. In all, retailers have ordered 13 percent more Blu-ray players this year. That's 3.3 million for those keeping track. So this brings the total amount of Blu-ray players - including PS3s - in American households to a whopping 11.7 million and in nearly 25% of homes that own an HDTV when considering that 45 million US homes have high-def sets. Yeah, that's cool. But I still don't want a Blu-ray player.

CrunchDeal: PS3 for $250
Posted on October 12, 2009 | No CommentsHere’s one hell of a deal on the PS3. You can pick up an 80gb unit with two controllers for the quite reasonable price of $250. That’s the best deal I’ve seen in a really long time for one of the best Blu-Ray players on the market. I’ll admit, I haven’t really found any of the [...] -

It’s official: Toshiba finally went Blu-ray today
Posted on August 10, 2009 | No Comments
They've announced it back in June and executed the plan today: Toshiba is now officially a Blu-ray supporter. The BDA is a voluntary membership group aimed at fostering the development of the Blu-ray format on a global scale.

Amazon on Demand comes to ‘09 Panasonic Blu-ray players
Posted on August 4, 2009 | No Comments
You gotta love automatic updates the bring new features to Blu-ray players. Panasonic is pushing out new firmware for its '09 Blu-ray lineup that adds Amazon on Demand to the already impressive extras of YouTube, Picasa, Bloomberg, and weather info. Oh, and that little portable Blu-ray player (BD15) also gains this ability along with the DMP-BD60, BD70V, and BD80. So once these players are graced with the update sometime today, users will have access to 45,000 SD titles and 1,000 HD titles. What's there not to love?

Blockbuster OnDemand coming to Samsung HDTVs, Blu-ray players, and home theater systems
Posted on July 14, 2009 | No Comments
What did I say when the Blockbuster OnDemand service launched last year? I said something about not discounting the service because the company has a lot riding on it, that's what. This partnership between Blockbuster and Samsung which will place the service on the majority of Samsung's new video gear implies that the service broke through to the mainstream and is here to stay.

CrunchDeal: $98 Magnavox Blu-ray player at Walmart
Posted on July 10, 2009 | No Comments
Who wants a cheap Blu-ray player? That's a dumb question. No one wants a cheap Blu-ray player, but rather a low-price, high quality player. This $99 Magnavox is unfortunately cheap. It's only Profile 1.1, doesn't haven't have analog audio out, or anything that would get videophiles excited. But it's only $99.

Vizio’s VBR100 Blu-ray player will be a Walmart exclusive
Posted on June 25, 2009 | No Comments
Vizio just took the wraps off of its hot Internet-connected HDTVs the other day, but the company has a new Blu-ray player coming soon too. The $188 MSRP will probably get price cuts and sales to bring it down to a more "Walmart" level seeing as Blu-ray players have breached the $100 mark. But even around the starting price, this player might not disappoint.
