Common Cents Mobile becomes Sprint’s latest prepaid brand, exclusive to Walmart

That new prepaid business for the anti-power user crowd that Sprint was fixing to launch? Yeah, it's here and it's official: meet Common Cents Mobile. Billed as a way to help folks "cut unnecessary costs," Common Cents Mobile is about as simple as it gets, offering pay-as-you-go 7-cent minutes and 7-cent text messages, plus unlimited messaging for $20 a month and data for $1 per megabyte per day. The bigger news, though, might be that voice minutes round down, which is a first in the US market as far as we know (in other words, frugal customers will want to make sure they hang up 59 seconds into the minute). As you might expect, the handset selection is bare-bones and easy on the pocketbook, consisting of the LG 101 at $19.77, the Samsung M340 at $39.77, and Kyocera's portrait QWERTY S2300 coming in at $69.77 -- all totally contract-free, of course. Look for these all to launch in select Walmarts across the land starting this Saturday, May 15. Follow the break for the full press release.

eBay Sells 5,000-plus iPads, UAE Buyers Pay Highest Prices

Since iPad's launch, eBay has sold more than 5,300 units across the world, 65% abroad and 35% at home, according to data from eBay that spans from mid-March to mid-April. The UK dominated international sales, with 550 units sold, or roughly 15% of foreign sales. But buyers from the United Arab Emirates were willing to shell out the most cash, with the average buyer paying a hefty premium of $537 (!) for the 64GB version (more than enough to buy a bare bones 16GB Wi-Fi model). Cool infographic from eBay ahead.

Short Version The hardware is a little old but the fact you can by a fairly capable ebook reader for under $150 is an interesting thing, especially in this overpriced world of iPads, Nooks, and Kindles. All-in-one solutions are nothing new. Hell, Walmart sells them, but that term is generally reserved for lower-market products, not something from a top-tier audio brands. Denon doesn't care about that stereotype though. The companies new S-5BD is a Blu-ray player and high-end audio receiver. All-in-one!

Nokia 2220 possibly spotted, clearly has no XpressMusic aspirations

Though Nokia's well-known for its midrange and high-end handsets, the meat and potatoes operation might be the low end -- take the venerable 1100, for example, which is kind of a big deal seeing how it's the best-selling phone in history. That's why phones like this rumored 2220 here are important, even though it won't make much of a PR splash when Nokia finally gets around to announcing it. The sleek slider keeps things ultra-simple with a VGA cam and a dual-band GSM radio, but it still manages to pack a 3.5mm jack, Series 40 (as opposed to the bare-bones Series 30), and an FM tuner. Look for it this quarter in select markets if the insider info here pans out.

    [Thanks, Daniel]

Star Trek communicator cloth one step closer to reality, still won’t beam you up

Many gadgets we use today were inspired by the fictional gadgets in Star Trek. Communicators inspired cell phones, tablet computers were inspired by the datapads that crew members carried, the medical scanners like Bones used in sick bay are becoming a reality as well. And now some Finns are hard at work at making the badge communicators happen, by making your clothes into the antenna such a thing would require.

The Peek has been around for a year already and surprise, surprise, it's still around. In fact, you can now snag one without a monthly subscription charge for $299 exclusively from Amazon. Now, I'm not saying you should spend $299 on a device that just does email now that smartphone's monthly subscription costs are dropping, but someone out there might want a dedicated device for email, Twitter, and Facebook. Update: Kind of ironic deal found. It's after the jump.

The G1 could get Donut, says notorious Android hacker

I’m a n00b to the whole Android scene; I make no bones about it. But I have been lurking the XDA forums for the last couple months and I feel comfortable rooting my Android devices (except the Hero) and swapping between “cooked ROMs” from various hackers devs to get the latest and greatest features. So when the Interwebs started freaking out over the G1’s lack of memory, which we all knew from the beginning, but that it would hinder the G1 from getting future updates, I started to worry. Alas, those closer to the realm of Android have shed a bit of light on what G1 owners could/should expect going forward regarding those nasty rumors about not getting Donut or Éclair. Mr Wimberly of Android and Me fame did a bit of digging and it seems as though we may have jumped the gun. Maybe.
