Orange Power Wellies convert all that dancin’ to juice for your mobile
Posted on June 7, 2010 | No Comments
We're coming upon festival season again, and you know what that means -- Orange is dragging their solar energy tent to Glastonbury. This year, prepare to charge your mobile phone while checking out the acts at the John Peel Stage, courtesy of your new Power Wellies. Developed in partnership with GotWind, the soles of the boots collect heat all day and, using something called the Seebeck effect, this heat is converted into electricity -- electricity that can be used to recharge your phone later that night. As if you needed an excuse to dance in the first place! PR after the break.

HTC Diamond 2 clone dual boots Android and Windows Mobile 6.5
Posted on May 19, 2010 | No CommentsSee that? That’s Android 1.6 (or “Andriod”, it seems) and Windows Mobile 6.5, on the same HTC Diamond 2(ish phone). Sure, it’s a knock-off made in China — and sure, it may very well explode into a fiery ball of death mere inches from your face. But if you’re worried about that, than you’re just [...] -

Quick Look: Kempler & Strauss W Phone Watch
Posted on February 3, 2010 | No Comments
Do you dream of jet boots and ninjas from space? Sure, we all do. Well, the future just arrived in my mailbox, friends, and it's the Kempler & Strauss W Phone Watch, an unlocked GSM phone inside a watch. Is it amazing, you ask? Does it come with a jet pack, you ask? The answers are "Yes" and "No."
The phone is about as big as a Garmin GPS watch and has a touchscreen and small camera. I'm going to wear this thing for a few days and report back on how it feels to wear the entire world on your wrist but this far it seems to work fine. The screen is amazingly hard to type on without a little stylus, but it's fun to try. Interestingly, you can even make and take calls without a headset.
How much does it cost? $199, friends, and it's available for pre-order now. While it will never replace the standard phone, it's nice to be able to tell people to talk to the hand. Or talk to the wrist. Or whatever.

Fear the Boot attacks our site, causing comment havoc

So there is this podcast, Fear the Boot, and I accidentally stole their logo for this post involving boots. The resulting ruckus on that post's comment thread is currently out of control and I am truly sorry that I unleashed this cancer on all of you, my dear, dear readers.

Video: Hackers give Palm Treo 650 an Android brain
Posted on November 13, 2009 | No Comments
Man - do you remember 2004? Gwen Stefani was off doing her solo thing, Hillary Swank was busting her neck in Million Dollar Baby (OMG SPOILER ALERT!), and Janet Jackson showed part of her breast to everyone watching the Super Bowl. Twas a simpler time - a time when the Palm Treo 650 was brand new.
5 years later, the Treo 650 now ranks somewhere between "relic" and "fossil" smartphone timeline - but with age comes wisdom, right? In this case, "wisdom" comes in the form of the Android-operating system, bestowed upon the 650 by a couple of clever chaps. I'd be surprised if everything is fully functioning - but hey, it boots!

Sony Ericsson looking ready to come clean with Android-powered Rachael on November 3
Posted on October 26, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Sony Ericsson, Android
It could be argued that Sony Ericsson owes the world some love after it built up its last event only to introduce a single, solitary A2DP headset, but we might finally get what's coming to us in just a few days' time. It looks like November 3 is the date SE has chosen to unleash the first volley in its Android strategy on the world, likely the XPERIA X3 (or X10, or whatever the heck they decide to call it) with that wild Rachael UI that we've been tracking for a few months. How do we know? Well, it does line up with the latest and greatest rumors -- but more importantly, digging into the event page's HTML source reveals several mentions of Rachael by name, so... yeah, that's pretty much a lock. Should the unannounced Dragon and Sholes / Droid both be shaking in their boots already?

NEC apparently plans to roll out touch screen business hand-held
Posted on October 26, 2009 | No Comments
Not much info on this yet, but NEC is apparently preparing a mobile PC that's reportedly as "capable as a personal computer" for business customers. The yet to be named device features three main buttons and a 7 to 8-inch LCD display (which appears to be a touch screen). Sorry, the small picture is all that's available at this point.

Bugathermo Heated Boot: Don’t do it
Posted on October 5, 2009 | No CommentsThe Internet just pissed itself this morning about these rechargeable boots that warm your feet for up to eight hours. Seriously. Boots with built-in warming devices. By Columbia. For $250. Get out of here. You can buy it here but please don’t. Seriously. Wear some socks. GPS makers, commence shaking in your boots. Yet another party has come along with hopes of destroying your business model.
The first hit came from Google, who announced back in October that they were adding free turn-by-turn functionality to Android. Nokia followed up with a massive haymaker
