Kobo launches e-reader app for Android
Posted on June 18, 2010 | No CommentsKobo -- perhaps best known for its e-reader tie-up with Borders -- is bringing its platform and bookstore to Android, beating bigger players like Amazon to the game. If you've already got a Kobo account, you can just log in and get instant access to your already-purchased books, but if you're new, you can buy stuff right from your phone; it supports ePub and counts more than two million titles to its library (some of which are free). Strangely, Kobo is circulating a picture of what appears to be a Nokia 5800 with its Android announcement -- but if you can get past that, the app should be available in the Market right now. Follow the break for the full press release.Continue reading Kobo launches e-reader app for Android

How-to: stay connected while traveling internationally
Posted on June 9, 2010 | No CommentsIt's a harsh reality that every avid traveler faces, and unless you're fortunate enough to have been born in a generation where you're not expected to check your inbox every half-hour, glance over Twitter updates every 7.23minutesseconds and tell the world where you're at this very moment via Foursquare, you've probably found yourself wondering how on Earth you're going to remain connected once your swipe that passport and leave the comfy confines of a native network. Staying connected while traveling abroad is no easy task, and while the internet may feel ubiquitous to tech-savvy smartphone owners who remain planted within the borders of their home nation, the world wide web suddenly becomes a whole lot less easy to track down once you plop down on foreign soil. Looking to splurge on a little international travel this summer, but can't figure out how you're going to (affordably) upload those Twitpics and YouTube videos once you get there? Fret not, young jetsetter -- we've got the keys to keeping you connected whilst overseas just beyond the break.Continue reading How-to: stay connected while traveling internationally

It’s just four days until International Pipe Smoking Day! Are you ready?
Posted on February 16, 2010 | No Comments
Hey, college kids and older men who need an affectation (I've never seen a 20-40 year old pipe smoker, interestingly), February 20 is International Pipe Smoking Day. The mission is to "foster links across the globe in honor of friendship, benevolence, and tranquility; and to celebrate the fraternity of pipe-smokers across all borders" but I think this is really about getting more people into the pipe smoking club.

GeeksPhone One now available for pre-order, launching in Spain this December
Posted on October 21, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Others, Android
Apparently not pushed back until January, GeeksPhone's Android-imbued smartphone, the One, is launching in Spain this December, recently-added physical keyboard and all. So far, the limited edition run will not be crossing Spanish borders on its own, but we doubt that'll stop any interested parties on foreign land. Final price will be 285 euro (US $427), 22 of which is all you need to put down to reserve yours today.

Bookstores Aim at Amazon With E-Readers of Their Own
Posted on July 7, 2009 | No CommentsIn a few months when best-selling author Dan Brown’s new book The Lost Symbol hits Borders, chances are some customers will be stepping into the chain’s British stores to buy the e-book and a reader instead of the hardcover book. Last week, Borders U.K. introduced a £189 ($276) e-book reader called Elonex. The Elonex will come [...]
