Meet Marc Flores, the new MobileCrunch writer
Posted on February 2, 2010 | No Comments
I begged and pleaded with Greg, editor of MobileCrunch, not to make me write this, but it looks like I'm stuck introducing myself to you all. So in my best Troy McClure voice let me say: Hi, my name is Marc Flores. You might remember me from popular sites such as Boy Genius Report or True/Slant.

Why No iPhone Updates? The Tablet, Perhaps.
Posted on January 13, 2010 | No Comments
It’s been over three months since Apple last updated the iPhone OS to version 3.1.2. And while that’s not an unheard of amount of time between updates, it is quite a bit of time to go without even word that a new update is coming soon. Why? It could be because Apple doesn’t want to tip its hand about any information about the upcoming tablet, a new report today suggests.
“There hasn’t been an updated iPhone OS build because there’s too much tablet-related code/references in the OS and Apple obviously didn’t want that to leak. Oops,” is what Boy Genius Report says it is hearing
from an Apple source it trusts. That news comes with a few other bits, including that the tablet’s multi-touch gestures are “out of control,” that it’s powered by an ARM processor, that it (obviously with the above information) runs on the iPhone kernel, and that it’s basically an “iPhone on steroids.” -
Palm likely calling its new Verizon models Pre Plus and Pixi Plus
Posted on December 30, 2009 | No CommentsWe've alluded to this a couple times already, but Boy Genius Report is coming out today and saying that Verizon's webOS launch devices early next year will indeed be called the "Pre Plus" and "Pixi Plus." We're able to independently confirm that this is the intel out in the field right now -- so unless Big Red calls an audible, these are the names you should be keeping an eye on as you're scanning the shelves. The report goes on to say that Verizon's models are the same size as Sprint's, but as we've already seen in the FCC, these new versions are going to be supercharged in one way or another -- at the very least, the Pixi should have WiFi on board, a welcome boost. Any way you slice it, it sure looks like Sprint got the short end of this stick, doesn't it?Palm likely calling its new Verizon models Pre Plus and Pixi Plus originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 30 Dec 2009 14:17:00 EST. HTC DROID Eris unboxed and examined: ‘feels much better’ than Sprint Hero
Posted on November 4, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, HTC, Verizon Wireless, Android
If recent leaks are any indication, we should be seeing plenty more HTC DROID Eris unboxings any day now, but right now it looks like the Boy Genius Report has scored one of the first courtesy of one its helpful "connects." Of course, there aren't exactly a ton of surprises with the packaging apart from a bright splash of color upon opening the box, but the unboxer does say that the phone itself is thinner and lighter than the Sprint HTC Hero, and generally "feels much better in the hand." Hit up the link below for a few more shots, and watch this space (well, not literally this space) for what's sure to be more Eris news to come.HTC DROID Eris unboxed and examined: 'feels much better' than Sprint Hero originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Wed, 04 Nov 2009 16:11:00 EST. DROID headed to Germany as Motorola MILESTONE (update: Italy too, no Google Maps Navigation)
Posted on November 2, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Motorola, O2, Android
O2 Germany has confirmed a GSM version of the DROID for Europe going by the name of the Motorola MILESTONE. The news comes courtesy of a sliver of O2's online store page that left itself exposed to the wiles of Google, complete with the above picture and the new moniker, and follows close on the heels of a leaked business guide which says the MILESTONE will retail for €404.20 to corporate customers, and will be available as of November 9th.
Update: It's now official on the Motorola Germany (and english language Western Europe) website where it lists Vodafone and O2 as local carriers. Italy now too, on an unspecified carrier. Oh, and it also lists "pinch and zoom" as a feature not found on the Droid. See for yourself after the break.
Update 2: As noted by a few readers, Milestone will ship with MOTONAV turn-by-turn directions, not Google's Maps Navigation.

HTC Droid Eris peeks its head out once more, shows off 5MP camera
Posted on October 29, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, HTC, Verizon Wireless, EV-DO, CDMA, Android
Hey, HTC -- we're onto you. We know you're a little upset that the lower-end Droid Eris isn't getting much attention now that the DROID is all over Verizon's marketing agenda, but it's not like we don't feel your pain. For those interested in spending a full Benjamin less on their next Android handset (on Big Red, anyway), the Droid Eris looks to offer that very solution, and now a few more sneak peeks have shown that a 5 megapixel camera (with a video record mode) is gracing the rear. We're also told that WiFi will be onboard (right, VZW?), and a bundle of joy will also be thrown in after mail-in rebate. Whatever that means.

Motorola Droid gets fully previewed, ‘must-have’ claims may not be far off
Posted on October 23, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Motorola, Verizon Wireless, EV-DO, CDMA, Android
Boy Genius Report has thrown up a full preview of the Motorola Droid -- or some prototype of it, anyhow -- and any way you slice it, it looks like Android fans, Verizon fans, phone fans, and red-blooded Americans alike should all be feeling pretty good that this thing is gonna kick some ass. As if feeling and looking like a rock-solid, metallic beast wasn't enough, Big Red's first Android outing is said to have killer battery life -- surprising, considering how mediocre the CLIQ's is -- and the seemingly flat keyboard apparently performs admirably, all things considered. Android 2.0 clips along at a nice pace thanks to an OMAP3 core, and obviously, there's not much to complain about visually when you're staring at a 3.7-inch capacitive display sporting roughly WVGA resolution. The icing on the cake, though, might be a magnetic sensor that detects an accessory dock that'll be sold at launch, turning the Droid into a desktop clock and weather station -- perfect for those rare moments when you're not out and about scaring little kids with the phone's robotic red eye. Needless to say, we're looking forward to the 28th.Motorola Droid gets fully previewed, 'must-have' claims may not be far off originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Fri, 23 Oct 2009 19:04:00 EST. HTC Desire with Sense UI and Verizon branding spotted
Posted on October 22, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, HTC, Verizon Wireless, Android
Verizon's on a roll with Android handsets these days, first with the heavily-advertised Motorola Droid and the reclusive / unannounced Calgary, and now with this fleeting glimpse of Android hardware progenitor HTC. Yes, it's got 3G (or the Verizon equivalent of it), Sense UI, a trackball just barely discernible on the bottom, and from what Boy Genius Report is saying no physical keyboard whatsoever -- all virtual. We're definitely sporting a Hero vibe, but really, would it really have too hard to find a decent light source for this shot?HTC Desire with Sense UI and Verizon branding spotted originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Thu, 22 Oct 2009 16:22:00 EST. Motorola Droid stands in for glamorous photo shoot
Posted on October 19, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Motorola, Verizon Wireless, Android
What a difference two months make. It's was late July when we first saw a render and spy shot of Motorola's "other" Android devices, the Verizon-bound Droid, a.k.a. the Artist Formerly Known as Sholes. Boy Genius Report has been teasing the handset for the better part of the week, and now it's giving us the full monty of the hardware, including its 5 megapixel autofocus camera on the back, and various Eclair-powered screens. Boy Genius himself notes that it's the fastest Android device he's used -- thank goodness for an authentic OMAP3 -- is "slightly" thicker than an iPhone 3GS, runs that Android 2.0 we've been hearing so much about, and includes a desktop cradle that turns the Droid into a glanceable display with weather and the like (sounds like a miniature Hub in a way, doesn't it?). Anyhow, you want all to see the whole show? You know just where to click.Motorola Droid stands in for glamorous photo shoot originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 19 Oct 2009 00:44:00 EST. Verizon confirms: Palm Pre hitting Big Red “early next year”
Posted on October 17, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Palm, Verizon Wireless, EV-DO, CDMA, webOS
Oftentimes a picture shouts a thousand words. Other times it belts out precisely a dozen. Straight from Verizon Wireless' official Twitter account comes this, a confirmation that the Palm Pre we knew was coming to Big Red, well, is coming to Big Red. If you can hold off through the tempting holiday rush, you'll find Palm's first-ever webOS device on VZW "early next year." Huzzah!
