A hacker, Labba, and his buddies have cracked the Kindle's ebook DRM, essentially allowing folks to extract the text of Amazon's AZW files into a PDF for viewing on any reader. The hackers have reverse engineered the ebook code and very close to a formal, software-based solution.

Leaked docs show HTC’s DROID Eris launching on November 6th for $99, running Android 1.5

Like it or not, we've got it on pretty reasonable authority that HTC's first "DROID" phone is nothing more than a rebadged, shape-shifted Hero (something we've been hearing for a while now), and that it'll be launching on Verizon on November 6th, the same day as Motorola's DROID. That means Android 1.5 "Cupcake," Sense UI, 3.2-inch screen, 528MHz processor and so forth. The Eris will retail for $199 but with a $100 mail-in rebate. It'll pack in an 8GB microSD card and the hopes and dreams of a generation of cheapskates that will be hopin' and prayin' that HTC manages to push Android 2.0 onto this thing so they don't look too bad in front of their DROID-toting buddies on Verizon.

Raytheon deploying Android-powered RATS on battlefields in Afghanistan and Pakistan
Posted on October 21, 2009 | No CommentsAndroid, Android everywhere. Android, Android in my hair. In my Nook and in my car in my netbook and in my... wait, Afghanistan? It seems defense contractor Raytheon, creators of the famous "pain ray", have launched a device called RATS: the Raytheon Android Tactical System. It allows soldiers to mark other soldiers and even UAVs as "buddies," then track their position in real time on a map, even picking up streaming video coming from above -- sort of like Latitude but putting a whole new spin on stalking. No word on how soldiers like their new devices so far, but once a Twitter app is added we're sure they won't shut up about it.

Android 2.0 gets torn apart, screenshot by screenshot

With Google having placed a canoe-sized Eclair on their lawn a few days ago, we know that the next update for Android (codenamed "Eclair", version number 2.0) can't be too far off. Google has kept their code surprisingly close to their chest, this time around; where as bits and pieces of each update generally show up in their code repositories to be explored months ahead of release, Eclair has gone mostly unseen.
Whether that's because they wanted to keep things mum until the launch of the first 2.0 phone or for some other mystery reason, we'll never know - but either way, the cat is out of the bag now.

AT&T ponies up $60 unlimited GoPhone plan

It may not be the cheapest unlimited around -- Boost, Cricket, and MetroPCS have all gone lower -- but AT&T figures that it can throw its network and brand recognition around as bargaining chips to get customers to pay $60 a month for pay-as-you-go unlimited voice and messaging through the company's GoPhone prepaid brand. The zinger here is that the plan also includes texting to Canada, Mexico, and 100 other countries, so it's actually a pretty good deal if you've got a lot of buddies chilling in Calgary or Cancun. It'll be available starting October 12, but there's nothing stopping you from lining up now outside your AT&T store -- just be prepared for some odd stares.

One of the main problems with indoor putting surfaces is that the layout and hole placement never changes. So you get really good at one particular putt and then once you hit the course, your golfing buddies laugh at you and pull down your pants when you miss any putt that's not ten feet away and dead straight. At least, that's what my golfing buddies do and I can only assume the same thing happens everywhere.
