Samsung Behold II finally gets Android 1.6 update

Yes, yes, we know you'd rather get Eclair or Froyo -- but sometimes you've got to be happy with what you've got, and this is one of those times. As far as we can tell, Samsung hasn't budged on its commitment to sunset the Behold II's upgrade path with Donut, but at least 1.6 is finally trickling into the hands of owners this week via a rolling over-the-air update that should wrap up on the 25th. There are a few bug fixes in the mix, too -- so unless you've got a rooted Behold II running 2.2 already, you probably want in on this action. Or... you know, dump this inadequately-supported piece for something running 2.1 out of the box.

Verizon just pushed out a minor update for webOS, bumping things up to version [...]

  • EA removes SecuROM DRM from Battlefield: Bad Company 2

EA removes SecuROM DRM from Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Since we're your go-to source for complaining about DRM, I figure we should mention the latest development regarding EA's Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Dice, the game's developer's, have removed SecuROM DRM from both the retail version of the game as well as the digitally distributed one (i.e. Steam). Why a Steam game even needs SecuROM in the first place (it's merely a disc check, so...) is a question I cannot answer. It's probably like a contractual thing or something.

Palm webOS 1.4 SDK released to developers, allows apps to record video

It’s a bit different than the “developers get the new firmware first” mentality we’ve grown used to from those other guys, but Palm has now released the SDK for webOS 1.4. The flagship feature of webOS 1.4 (besides Adobe Flash support, which isn’t available just yet) is its new found ability to record video. With [...]

New Google Mobile App adds Voice Search support for iPod

Google has submitted a new version of its Google Mobile App for the iPhone platform (iTunes link), and the fresh app now finally boasts built-in support for Voice Search on iPod touch devices (2G or newer). Version 0.4.5.3281 also brings improved stability when using Voice Search on 'restrictive networks' and is also said to make Search by Voice completion detection function a bit better. Other than that, the update brings a number of bug fixes, one that fixes pasting into the search box and one that should prevent the app from crashing when you do a search for '@'.

Sprint Samsung Moment updated for anyone willing to leave their house

Remember the good ol' days of being a cell phone owner? Back when you could probably name every color your screen could display, 2G data connections were mind blowing, and gettin' your firmware flashed meant taking a trip to the good ol' neighborhood carrier outlet? Yeah - we're back to that.

Surprise! webOS 1.3.5.2 adds Bluetooth tethering

You know that Europe-only Palm Pre update we mentioned just a little while ago? Turns out there’s an undocumented, hidden feature tucked inside. That’s our favorite kind of feature! webOS bumped up to 1.3.5.2, but only in Europe

Just as all of us yanks were riding high on our brand new upgrade to webOS 1.3.5.1 , Palm goes and gives all our Pre-toting brethren over in Europe webOS 1.3.5.2. Considering that it’s a trivial enough upgrade that it only bumps the overall numbering up an earth-shattering zero-point-zero-point-zero-point-one, we’re not all that jealous – [...]

  • Sidekick LX 2009 basks in the warm glow of a minor firmware update

Sidekick LX 2009 basks in the warm glow of a minor firmware update

In the event that Sidekickgate didn't scare you right out of using anything involving Danger, you've got a bit of good news this week -- if you've got an LX 2009 model, anyhow -- on news that a new firmware has been pushed out over-the-air. Details are thin, but it looks like the biggies here are support for backing up contacts to T-Mobile's Mobile Backup service (independently of the normal sync that happens to Danger's servers) and a host of bug fixes, which are always a pleasant thing for improving the user experience in the field. It's hard to say how many LX 2009s are still in active use and how many more are realistically gonna be sold, but yeah -- if we had to guess, the writing's on the wall for Sidekick as we know it, so at this point, cherish every FOTA like it's your last.
