Peek’s Project Big Stuff revealed as software update

Well this is boring. At least it sounds boring. Peek announced a few weeks back that the company was working on some big stuff. Like, legitimately big stuff. Now we hear by way of the WSJ that this so-called Project Big Stuff is just a software update. It better be a damn big software update to keep our attention.

Review: VC Audio Pro recording / audio editing app

Most recording apps are fairly limited in what you can do with your recording once you’ve made it. Is StreamTV a black knight in the 3D TV market?

3D TVs are a hot topic these days, with Panasonic, Sony, and Samsung all fighting for a piece of the action. • Evernote: an iPad app update that makes sense

Evernote: an iPad app update that makes sense

I was able to avoid most of the iPad hype this weekend by first sitting through the Henry Rollins Frequent Flyer tour, and then going to my in-laws for the Christian celebration of Easter. Along the way, I got a number of emails about apps that were updated for, or simply compatible with, the iPad. Most of these app updates were underwhelming. The only one that really caught my attention, though, was Evernote. I've been using Evernote on my iPhone for quite some time, and it's quickly become an indispensable addition to my life. The new iPad version -- still free -- offers at least one nifty new iPad-specific feature.

Belkin seems to understand normal people, releases aptly named wireless routers

Consumers are dumb. Don't deny it. We are. Belkin apparently relized that and instead of opting for the standard router naming scheme which would be something like 802.11 WiFi MAX with Double Speed Pipe Router, the company took a simpler approach. Its new router's names are simply their capabilities: Surf, Share, Play, and Play Max. Nice and easy, although my mother-in-law would probably still call me up while she's standing in front of them to ask which one she should buy even though she doesn't game nor have another computer to share items. Digressing...

The SayCool tablet mates a 7-inch multitouch display to Windows XP

There is a steady stream of tablet PCs flowing out of China recently. Most of them are just the same ol' thing, but this SayCool tablet stood out from the rest with a 7-inch capacitive screen that's apparently multitouch capable. Now, the tablet runs Windows XP, which isn't nearly as touch friendly as Win7, but it certainly can be done with the right cocktail of software and hardware.

    >These Core i7-980X CPUs are everywhere now. First it was Alienware, then Maingear, now Digital Storm, and there's still at least one more announcement coming today. But Digital Storm wasn't satisfied with the standard 3.33GHz on a stock 980X. Oh no, this Core i7 can be cranked all the way to the breakneck speed of 4.44GHz.

Next-gen GigaPan system sports new features, better frame

It's no secret, we think that GigaPan's products are pretty darn cool. The first generation only supported P&S cameras, the second generation worked with SLRs, but not the big boys. The Epic Pro however, not only supports a full size SLR with a heavy lens, it's significantly more powerful then the ones that have come before.

  • Lenovo: 80% of the technology will run on the mobile web by 2015

Lenovo: 80% of the technology will run on the mobile web by 2015

Lenovo company chief Yang Yuanqing said that soon the majority of Lenovo products would run on the mobile web, meaning a cross of 3G and 4G technologies. Most of their current line comes with 3G built in and their ThinkPad line is just screaming out for mobile web simply because it is aimed at the on-the-go professional. What think I on this topic? I think Lenovo is unqiuely placed to take advantage of the mobile web, along with Dell and HP. All three are seen as "business" notebook manufacturers, for better or worse, and that's a low margin business. By adding 3G capabilities out of the box they presumably get a cut from the carriers as they sell more units.
