Libretto W100: Toshiba shows double touchscreen tablet (video)
Posted on June 21, 2010 | No Comments
What's better than a tablet with one touchscreen? A tablet with two touchscreens. That's at least what Toshiba must have thought when they cooked up the Libretto W100 with its dual 7-inch multi-touch displays (1,024×600 resolution and LED backlighting for both). There's no physical keyboard, but you'll get a virtual one with haptic response.

NetWalker PC-T1: Sharp announces mini tablet for Japan for next month
Posted on April 19, 2010 | No Comments
The iPad hasn't landed in Japan yet, giving domestic competitors some room for their own announcements for tablet PCs. Sharp, for example, today unveiled [JP] the NetWalker PC-T1, which looks like a tablet variant of the PC-Z1 the company introduced last year. Both models look pretty similar, it's just that the older device lost the keyboard to become the T1.

Toshiba Japan has announced [JP] a total of 15 new LCD REGZA TVs for the Japanese market today (the company is selling REGZAs outside Japan, meaning chances are these new models will be rolled out internationally, too). The HD JVC Everio GZ-HM550 lets smartphones control functions via Bluetooth
Posted on March 19, 2010 | No Comments
The JVC GZ-HM550 brings a new set of standards to the table. It isn't the 1920 x 1080 recording or 9 MP stills. Nor is it the 32GB internal flash memory with an SD/SDHC card slot playing backup or even the Konica Minolta HD lens. Nope, it's the novel Bluetooth function that might make a full size camcorder relevant again in a smartphone world.

The JVC GZ-HM340 camcorder offers HD recording for only $499
Posted on February 2, 2010 | No Comments
High-definition camcorders are constantly falling in price and we like it. The new JVC GZ-HM340 carries a $499 MSRP but yet offers a lot of what we look for in an HD cam. The model sports image stabilization on a 20x Konica Minolta HD zoom lens, along with storing the video to either a SD/SDHC card or its internal 16GB flash memory. But what, there's more!

Canon’s entry-level camcorders gain HD in the form of the HFR series
Posted on January 5, 2010 | No CommentsCES is here, even though most of your friendly neighborhood CrunchGear writers are still in their respective home states. (We'll be arriving in Las Vegas throughout the day today.) First up for me: new camcorders from Canon. Entry-level ones, too, so don't feel intimidated. You've got the HFR11, the HFR10, and the HFR100. They're basically souped up, HD versions of the previous FS series of entry-level cameras. Nothing wrong with HD.

TiVo Premiere leaked by manual mix-up?
Posted on December 30, 2009 | No Comments
It's about time that TiVo outs some new hardware and it looks like it might be sooner than later. The TiVo HD and HD XL have been sitting atop the companies mast unchanged for sometime now, while other DVRs like the Moxi keeps the updates rolling. But a little manual mix-up might show what TiVo is prepping to launch.
The story goes that Patrick McCarron upgraded to a TiVo HD and discovered that his box included a TiVo Premiere and Premiere XL setup guide. Now that's a little interesting because as far as anyone knows, those products don't exist. But from what we can make it, the info on the unannounced products seem to follow a evolutionary path from the current models.

Thanko rolls out not one but two spy cams
Posted on December 14, 2009 | No Comments
Tokyo-based USB gadget maker today started selling two spy cameras, the so-called Camera Cap [JP] and the LED Spy Light [JP]. While it's a bit of a stretch to call the latter a spy accessory, the bizarre cap can surely be used for undercover reconnaissance and other shenanigans. As to be expected, both gadgets are kind of silly and powered by USB.

VHS lives: JVC announces VHS/DVD/Blu-ray recorder for Japan
Posted on October 30, 2009 | No Comments
It seems VHS will never die, and this is generally welcome, as a lot of good movies aren't still available on optical discs. In summer 2008, Panasonic released a VHS/Blu-ray combo, followed by Sharp's Aquos BD-HDV22 that was pretty much the same thing. And today, over one year later, JVC anounced the DR-BH250 [JP], which is a VHS recorder, Blu-Ray Recorder and 250GB HDD rolled into one.
