BlackBerry Bold 9700 gets handled, appreciated for its nuances
Posted on October 21, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, RIM, ATT, T-Mobile, Vodafone, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS, BlackBerry OS
Our dear colleagues over at Engadget German have had a chance to play with RIM's just-announced BlackBerry Bold 9700 today, and every indication we've gotten is that this thing is a perfect -- if not extremely conservative -- successor to the first-generation Bold. Interface and network speed are both praised (both the 9700 and the Bold before it feature a 624MHz core, so there's some magic going on here) and the microSD card is now hot-swappable, meaning that you've got a theoretically limitless supply of storage space if you happen to be carrying around a pocketful of 16GB cards. Check out the full gallery below, and naturally, stay tuned for a review of this bad boy just as soon as is humanly possible.

Posted on September 28, 2009 | No Comments
Victor JVC seems to finally have realized how well the Flip sells over in North America. The company has now announced the Picsio GC-FM1 [JP], a mini camcorder recording video at 2.03MP and shooting pictures at 8MP. The Picsio offers 1080p output at a 4:3 ratio (1,440×1080, 30fps). Alternatively, you can go for a 720p, VGA or QVGA mode.

Watch torture tests are actually quite exciting
Posted on September 24, 2009 | No Comments
A company called Swiss Military Watch - I've never heard of them - ran their heavy duty diver through a few clever tests including a blast from a fire hose and a close, personal connection to a stick of dynamite.
The model in question, the 20,000 feet looks pretty hefty and includes a nice 7750 Valjoux movement with COSC certification. It has a large crown, heavy side cards, and is made mostly of titanium. Also it's like $4428, not amazingly bad for a Valjoux COSC-certified chrono. Plus you can shoot it.

Posted on September 21, 2009 | No Comments
You guys sitting down? Bad news from The Internet!
Rare, the company behind GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64, basically said that the game will probably never be available for download on the Wii or Xbox 360.

Two-person Snuggie costs $350, is made from Icelandic wool
Posted on September 14, 2009 | No Comments
Winter will be here before you know it, and if you’ve been eying the probably-flammable and not-all-that-warm Snuggie, maybe you’d prefer to spend a LOT more on a two-person version made from 100% Icelandic wool.

How much for 67 terabytes? Try $7,867
Posted on September 2, 2009 | No Comments
Online storage provider Backblaze had a problem. They offer unlimited storage to their customers for $5 a month, but needed a solution to actually do what they were advertising. Enter "The Pod" — consisting of 45 hard drives, 4 SATA cards, and a custom made case, it's a modular storage monster. And the best part is, they'll tell you how to build one yourself, for free.

RIM buys out Torch Mobile, BlackBerry going WebKit
Posted on August 24, 2009 | No CommentsOh - now that makes more sense. After rumors got out that RIM was toiling away at Flash and Silverlight for the BlackBerry browser, we were a bit perplexed. That would imply a whole new browser was in the works, and RIM’s about as good at making browsers as I am at building card houses [...] -

Posted on August 21, 2009 | No Comments
Even in cell phone-crazy Japan, the fixed-line phone isn't quite dead yet. And Sharp Japan's JD-7C1CL/CW [JP], announced yesterday, is proof there's still room for mild innovation in that area. The cordless phone is bundled with a 7-inch touch panel that can be used for various functions.

Thanko’s new USB gadget: “Action Camera”
Posted on July 27, 2009 | No Comments
USB gadget specialized Thanko strikes again. This time, the Tokyo-based company gives you a small portable camera [JP] that can be attached to your bike or helmet, for example. The so-called Action Camera is similar to a device Thanko released in May, but this new model isn't waterproof.
But it can record video at 30fps (in 640 x 480 VGA), weighs just 80g and stores video on MicroSD cards (up to 2GB, the internal memory is 32MB only). Charge the battery for 2.5 hours and you can use the Action Camera for up to 2 hours. Needless to say, there is also a USB 2.0 port (this is a Thanko product, after all).

The PhotoFast CR-7200 MicroSDHC RAID-0 CF adapter
Posted on June 25, 2009 | No Comments
Now this is a good idea: RAID together four 16GB MicroSDHC cards for a fast, 64GB Compact Flash card. I guess in theory this is an efficient flash memory solution. You get the speed of MicroSDHC spread over four cards that's compatible with high-end, or older, digital cameras. Or it you can finally put all those small MicroSDHC cards to good use.
