And while you’re at it, why not turn that old cassette tape into clothing? I mean, really.

Someone call LATFH. This is “Sonic Fabric,” and it's made out of old cassette tape, um, tape. It's 100 percent ridiculous, yes.

Shadow Complex achievements splayed out for all to see

I don’t quite see the appeal of Epic and Chair’s upcoming XBLA title Shadow Complex that was announced at E3, but I guess it’s because I think of Gears of War and Unreal Tournament whenever Epic comes up. Nevertheless, August 19th is fast approaching and Epic revealed the achievements today. Hit the jump for the latest gameplay trailer and the 12 achievements for Shadow Complex.

Microsoft pulls its head out of the sand, releases GPL Linux kernel modules

Fang and "the Ginger Cat" by Elsie esq. Microsoft, not known for playing nice with anyone, has made a surprising about-face: they've released Linux kernel modules under the GNU Public License. That's right: the company that's been trying to scare businesses away from Linux and GPL code for years -- remember in 2001 when Steve Ballmer called Linux a cancer? -- has just released GPL code of its own. “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

The 40th anniversary Fisher Space pen

What a great way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Moon landing by owning an $800 pen. The Fisher Space pen is of course legendary for it's ability to write in space, but this one packs a little something special. The top of the pen features a bit of thermal insulation used on the Columbia Command Module that's engraved with a picture of the Moon landing. That's eff'n cool, but I don't know if it's $800 cool. If you think so, you better hurry up 'cause there is only going to be 1,000 available.

Barnes & Noble launches its own e-book store, and you can read ‘em on your iPhone or PC

Well look at that, Barnes & Noble is getting into the e-book game. Right now, there's no stand-alone reader to go along with the company's just-launched e-book store, but it's not big deal; odds are you already have the reader. (A reader, created by Plastic Logic, is scheduled to go on sale early next year.) The store, which has “700,000 titles” on its servers, goes live alongside an iPhone (and iPod touch) and Mac/PC reader software. That is, as you fire up, I don't know, iPhoto or Notepad, you could be reading The Beckham Experiment.

Study: Teens moving away from illegal music downloads toward streaming sites, blogs

There's a new study that suggests that teens are moving away from illegally downloading music. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that teens are turning to iTunes (or whatever) en masse, but rather is a reflection of the way the Web works in 2009. Music blogs, streaming sites like Imeem and YouTube (note: not all streaming on YouTube is 100 percent legal), applications like Spotify, etc. are increasingly the destination for teens today.

“Bowlingual”: Portable dog language translator (video)

Japanese toymaker Takara Tomy claims it has developed a device that can translate what a dog "says" into human language and emoticons in real time. And the so-called "Bowlingual" [JP ] isn't being marketed as a (pure) gag product. Jointly developed with an acoustics research laboratory and a veterinarian, the Bowlingual works wirelessly (your dog must wear a wireless mic around the neck). Let the device catch noises made by your dog (transmission range: 10m) and it will analyze the "animal language" with a special algorithm before telling you on the LCD screen what was being "said".

Fujifilm’s 3D Digicam Almost Ready for Stores
