After releasing the "iPhone killer TG01" on WinMo 6.5 last year, the company announced another Windows Mobile-based cell phone in Japan today (Toshiba is one of Microsoft's official "Mobile Partners", after all).

LookTel, an app for the blind

Now here's a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. LookTel is an object identifier - you point it at something and it tells you what it is. You can teach it to recognize new objects and by aiming it at a product, the program can tell what it is using real speech and when you need to ID something on the fly, you can stick on an image sticker and read that sticker. It's more or less a barcode and QR scanner with some image recognition thrown in, but it really could be a boon to those with failing - or failed - eyesight.

Fuel cells are on their way into the mainstream, even though the commercially available models are still pretty pricey. But there are companies like Kyoto-based Aquafairy [JP], for example, preparing affordable fuel cells, too. Their four new fuel cells are intended to make gadget fans in particular happy: the micro FC Stick (0.8W), the FC-Stick (2W), the FC-Cube (3W) and the FC-Cube Dual (6W).

New technology heats up cell phones when callers get agitated

I can't think of too many use cases for this, but they did it: A team of researchers from the University of Tokyo (Japan's MIT if you will) has developed a technology that makes it possible to "physically" convey emotions from cell phone to cell phone. The key elements of the technology are a sensor and a Peltier device that's attached to the back of the phones.

We started drooling about the HTC Supersonic as soon as we heard the words "Android" and "WiMax" in the same sentence. Once "4.3 inch display" got thrown into the mix, our salivary glands just couldn't be stopped.
While HTC hasn't made even the smallest of official peeps about this thing yet, it looks like someone out there has gotten their hands all over it - and just as anyone with early access to a new, unannounced cell phone should do, they took some video.
