Dell’s 7- and 10-inch tablets appear right on schedule

It looks like Dell has been quietly toiling away at a whole family of tablets and not just the 5-inch Streak shown off post-CES 2010. There are 7- and 10-inch version in the works, too. It's not actually a surprise per se as we doubt anyone really believed that Dell's only tablet offering would be a small 5-inch guy.

  • RCA’s AirPower has been repackaged to better hide the snake oil inside

RCA’s AirPower has been repackaged to better hide the snake oil inside

The RCA Airnergy AirPower is curious little device. It is supposed to harvest WiFi signals and convert them into usable energy, which is then sent out over a USB cable to charge a gadget. Yeah, think of the possibilities. But while the technology really does exist and has been demonstrated, it seems a little to easy. Apparently RCA is serious about the product line and has ditched the name Airnergy in favor of AirPower and is now showing off a slightly more polished look than the ones seen at CES 2010.

Sprint LG Rumor Touch finally going on sale on March 28th

Man oh man! Remember the LG Rumor Touch? The touchscreen feature phone Sprint announced all the way back at CES in early January? If you’d had asked me yesterday when this thing was going to launch, my response would have been a blank stare followed by “Holy crap, that hasn’t launched yet?” Sure enough, it hasn’t [...]

  • Palm: We coulda been a contender

Palm: We coulda been a contender

In Greek tragedy, the flaw of hubris was the decisive plot point that brought down many great men. Palm, then, is the Oedipus of a modern tragedy, their efforts to rebuild hampered by a failure to see past their own greatness and a refusal to enter the market on the market's terms. To be honest, I was a Palm fan, then I wasn't a Palm fan, and now am part of the chorus of voices bemoaning the lowly state to which the company has been thrust. Palm recently reported $349 million in revenue with a third quarter loss of $102.8 million. Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein said:
"If we could have launched at Verizon prior to the Droid, I think we would have gotten the attention the Droid got. And since I believe we have a better product, I think we could have even done better."

HP Slate priced, dated, and spec’d?

The HP Slate has been showing up in all sorts of places since it's CES 2010 debut. But we really never knew much about it. We didn't know what CPU or GPU it was running, along with if it had 3G, GPS, webcams. But a Spanish site seemingly has all the answers and we like what we hear.

Plastic Logic pushes the Que E-Reader launch back to mid-summer

Bad news and good news. You can probably guess the bad news if you read the headline. Plastic Logic has officially delayed the Que. You may recall that the Que was the one e-reader at CES 2010 that stood above the crowd thanks to its very thin casing and large screen. It was supposed to ship mid-April, but the company can't meet that deadline. The new shipping timetable is mid-summer.

Final Four to be shown in 3D theaters

Mark Cuban and Bud Mayo have been pushing the current generation of 3D long before the current generation of 3D had even been pitched as the next big thing to consumers by TV manufacturers. Cuban and Mayo (sounds like a delicious sandwich) aren’t trying to get you to watch 3D television in your home, though. They actually want you to leave the house. And you’ll be able to do just that if you live near one of the Cinedigm-fitted 3D theaters that’ll be showing the semi-finals and championship game for the NCAA Final Four college basketball tournament in early April.

Barnes and Noble to sell the Samsung E6 ebook reader this spring

The Nook is soon going to have a bit of competitino on its home playing field when the Samsung E6 reader hits shelves this coming spring. Although it probably doesn't have much to worry about. We spent sometime with the slider at CES and can't see any reason why most consumers would opt for the $399 reader instead of the hot Nook.

An Oscar win for Avatar tonight is a win for 3D technology as a whole

Tonight's Oscars are as much about technology as they are good movies. Granted, movie-making has always been about embracing new technology—critics complained when movies first appeared, when they added sound, when they added color, etc.—but Avatar can be looked at as nothing more than a glorified tech demo. A win for Avatar tonight is a win for 3D technology, end of.
