CHAdeMO: Japan wants to set global standard for electric cars

The electric car continues to be a hot topic in Japan. A slew of influential Japanese companies like Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi (whose i miev is pictured on the left), or Tokyo Electric Power have now started an initiative aimed at creating a global standard, dubbed CHAdeMO, for high-speed battery chargers for electric cars. The consortium will consist of a total of 158 different companies and organizations.

Logitech goes downmarket with the $150 Harmony 700

Now that the Harmony 900 has effectively taken the top tier away from the older Harmony One, Logitech needed a suitable remote for the bottom tier. That's where the $150 Harmony 700 comes in. From the presser, it seems that this new remote might simply be a slightly stripped down Harmony One. The look isn't that clean, the LCD screen is smaller, and the charging system a little janky with AAs, but it's still got what makes a Harmony special: dead simple macro setup thanks to great PC software.

Induction charging is magic -- pure magic! Woot.com is selling a little of that magic in the form of the InCharge for Xbox 360 Inductive Charging System for just $15, plus $5 shipping. I reviewed the Wii version of this very same system and still use it happily to this day -- mostly because I love magic! Also, gaming.

Inductive charging is slowly making its way into the consumer market space and should hit its stride next year. We’ve already seen devices that utilize inductive charging with the Palm Pre and its Touchstone charger as well as Energizer’s Wii Induction Charging System. There are other devices out on the market, but those come to mind right off the bat.
