Nokia abandoning S60 for Maemo on future N-Series devices?
Posted on November 18, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, Software, Nokia, Linux, Symbian
Confused by Nokia's dual-platform, Maemo 5 and S60 5th Edition smartphone choices? You're not alone. Fortunately, things are starting to become a bit more clear thanks to some loose-lipped members of Maemo's marketing team attending an official N900 meet-up in London last night. According to The Really Mobile Project, Nokia will drop S60 from all of its flagship N-series consumer devices in favor of Maemo. Apparently, Nokia has been pleasantly surprised by the enthusiastic response to the N900 OS even though the enthusiast package is not quite ready for mass-market appeal. Mind you, the transition won't be instantaneous as anyone with an N900 (and a clear mind) can attest -- the OS, services, and apps just can't compare to the mature S60 platform regardless of Maemo 5's superior user experience. As such, we'll continue to see N-Series handsets already in development pop with S60 on board alongside mass-market Maemo devices as the platform matures to the point that Nokia can make the full switch by 2012. Assuming, of course, Nokia doesn't end up adding webOS to its portfolio somewhere along the way.

Review: iFrogz Timbre earbuds w/mic and Luxe case for iPod touch
Posted on October 20, 2009 | No CommentsShort Version: What we've got here is
a failure to communicateiFrogz's Timbre headphones w/mic and their iPod touch 2G & 3G Luxe case. In a nutshell, the Timbre headphones (which work with both the iPhone and iPod touch) provide decent audio playback, a reasonably comfortable fit (thanks to the three different ear bud choices), and the convenience of a built-in microphone for voice memos, Skype, etc albeit for the slightly higher than desirable price of $49.99. As for the Luxe, it is mediocre at best with a suspect design and very little going for it, especially considering it runs $29.99. -

In the search for affordable 11.6-inch netbooks, you have a couple of enticing choices in the Acer Aspire One 751h and the Gateway LT3103. The return of the TV-B-Gone
Posted on July 6, 2009 | No Comments
Just when you thought it was safe to go to a consumer electronics show, some clever individual has come up with a way to make that most infamous of TV remotes, the TV-B-Gone, even smaller. Now you have a few more choices on where to conceal your weapon of mass distraction as you are searched by a security guard.
While the original TV-B-Gone wasn't exactly clunky, some people just can't leave well enough alone. So we end up with a smaller model of the same technology, again capable of causing all kinds of mayhem and foolishness at your local electronics retailer.

Ah, the standard 10-inch netbook. It's everywhere. Photography is an expensive hobby. Between special lights, making sure your color balance is set right, and never mind the camera, you can spend thousands of dollars on expensive equipment, all to make sure you get that one perfect shot. Now, the clever programmers at Pixelexip have come up with a way you can use your iPhone to make some of those tasks easier (and less expensive).
