Video: BlackBerry 9670 clamshell and BB OS 6.0 demoed
Posted on June 9, 2010 | No Comments
While not the first video appearance of our peculiar clamshell friend, the BlackBerry 9670, this latest hands-on is the most extensive.
Clocking in at a combined 12 minutes, Driphter have uploaded two videos of the new device, which I've embedded for you, after the break.

Inventec’s Dr. Eye puts Android in a pocket-sized laptop
Posted on June 3, 2010 | No CommentsIt may sound like a mid-boss in some forgotten and poorly translated NES game, but Dr. Eye (aka the N18C) is actually a sort of keyboard-endowed MID from Inventec. This chubby clamshell sports a QWERTY keyboard, a 4.8-inch VGA touchscreen, 3G, WiFi, and a front-facing webcam. Power is said to come from a "Marvell 624," which we're guessing is a 624MHz PXA310 and, while it's currently running 1.6, word is that it'll be dipped in 2.1's creamy filling in the near future. When will delivery be? Inventec has been showing this guy off since last year, and while the person doing the demonstration indicates they'll be available "pretty soon" at a price point around $400, we found this guy for sale already at a price of 2688 yuan, or about $395. So, if you're eager to get computing and prefer donuts to eclairs, we wish you happy importing.Continue reading Inventec's Dr. Eye puts Android in a pocket-sized laptop

The Viliv N5 is now launching in June
Posted on May 18, 2010 | No Comments
I've been patiently waiting for the Viliv N5 MID to launch after first getting a glimpse at it before CES '10. I was hoping to be able to check it out this month as a rumor suggested back in March. But apparently that's not going to happen. The little Windows 7 clamshell has been pushed back to June.

Video: Chunky BlackBerry 9670 flip phone
Posted on May 11, 2010 | No Comments
While it may not be the best lookin' BlackBerry I've seen, I'm sure there are at least a few of you out there that get a kick out of the blend of classic mid-naughties BlackBerry stylin' and retro non-touch clamshell form factor.
C'mon, there's a few of you, isn't there?
Well, in the hopes that there is, I've gone and found a video of this most unholy union.

Nokia-Microsoft partnership bears first fruit: Communicator Mobile comes to E52 and E72
Posted on May 5, 2010 | No CommentsLast time we used "Nokia" and "Communicator" in the same sentence, we were talking about a giant QWERTY clamshell with roots dating back to the mid '90s -- but yeah, that's most definitely not what looking at here. Instead, we're seeing the first results of Nokia's newfound friendship with Microsoft, a build of Communicator Mobile that's all set up to run on the S60-based E52 and E72. Granted, an enterprise instant messaging utility isn't something we can all use, but that's just as well since it's limited to just two devices in Nokia's range at the moment; eventually, it'll be preinstalled on "select" devices and be available to a broader selection of phones already in the lineup. This is awesome, guys -- now let's get cracking on Office, shall we?Nokia-Microsoft partnership bears first fruit: Communicator Mobile comes to E52 and E72 originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 05 May 2010 16:11:00 EST. BlackBerry 9670 pops up again, with Atlas 8910 in tow
Posted on April 27, 2010 | No CommentsWell, I’ll be. Thanks to the efforts of an intrepid CrackBerry forum-goer, we have yet another BlackBerry 9670 picture to ogle. And this time, it has company! Here’s a quick refresher for anyone interested: the 9670 is RIM’s first clamshell BlackBerry, which coincidentally wields RIM’s first 5.0 megapixel camera. It runs BB OS 6.0, and should [...] -
BlackBerry Clamshell Spied Wearing OS 6.0
Posted on April 21, 2010 | No Comments
Following hot on the sexy heels of the BlackBerry OS 6.0 leak, comes word of some interesting BlackBerry firsts. The first first (so to speak) is that BlackBerry 6.0 has now been spotted running on a device. The second first (*ahem*) is that said device is also the (almost) first clamshell blackberry device!
It shall be known, affectionately, as the 9670.

Verizon officially launches the rugged, text-friendly Casio G’zOne Brigade
Posted on March 11, 2010 | No CommentsJust yesterday we were saying that Casio’s built-to-be-beaten G’zOne Brigade would be launching today — and sure enough, it just went live on Verizon’s web site. As a rugged phone, it’s flagship feature is that it’s.. well, a rugged phone. These things usually don’t pack much functionality beyond that. This one, however, sneaks a full QWERTY [...] -
Casio’s ultra-tough G’zOne Brigade going on sale tomorrow?
Posted on March 10, 2010 | No CommentsWAAAAY back in November, Casio and Verizon showed off the G’zOne Brigade, an ultra-durable clamshell phone with a surprise QWERTY keyboard packed inside. “Push to talk!” they said. “It’s weatherproof!” they said. And then the radio went silent; nearly four months later, not so much as a release date had been mentioned. Well, it looks like [...] -
Hands-on: UMID mbook BZ
Posted on February 9, 2010 | No CommentsThe original UMID mbook M1 is a mixed bag of results. On hand it’s a very pocketable Windows XP clamshell with a 4.8-inch touchscreen, but the battery life and computing power isn’t that great. Well, I’m checking out the new mbook BZ right now and it seems that the BZ model addresses one of those issues while [...]
