Murata’s paper-thin waterproof speaker perfect for phones, pool parties
Posted on June 10, 2010 | No CommentsWaterproof phones are few and far between stateside, but in Japan, they're pretty common -- and hey, who wouldn't like to be able to safely take that two-hour conference call from the comfort of your bubble bath? To that end, Murata is touting its new ultra-thin piezoelectric speaker that clocks in at just 0.9mm thick while maintaining IPX7 compliance for water resistance. It's said that waterproof phones are traditionally made by covering speaker holes with a film, compromising sound quality -- but with Murata's design, no film is necessary, offering you that symphony hall-style audio you so desperately need from sixteen inches under the surface of your swirling hot tub. Party on!Murata's paper-thin waterproof speaker perfect for phones, pool parties originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 10 Jun 2010 17:36:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Set your clocks, Halo: Reach Beta intro to be shown at 11:00am PDT
Posted on April 29, 2010 | No Comments
In a rather strange move for a video game, Bungie will be showing off the Halo: Reach Beta today via Halo 3: ODST's main menu. This video will star Beta's actress, comedienne, and weapons expert, Aisha Tyler. Chances are the video will find its way onto YouTube by the end of the day just in case you don't have ODST. The Halo: Reach Beta Guide is also now up for your perusal. The May 3rd beta launch is getting closer and closer. Oh man. It's next week.

Essex Watches make some divers I could get behind
Posted on April 20, 2010 | No Comments
Mmmm... GMT! Essex is a German company that makes ETA divers on rubber straps and beautiful grains-of-rice bands. They're a little pricey - the standard three-hander is a little over $2,000 and the GMT clocks in at $2,545 - but they have a cetain 1970s aesthetic that I like.
The watches are originally German and they're selling them online at Essex-Watches.com. Click through for press release.

Asus Ares 5970 is truly two 5870s slapped together, no holds barred
Posted on April 12, 2010 | No CommentsThe ATI Radeon HD 5970 is essentially two 5870s slapped together, but underclocked a little bit so as not to melt a hole through your carpet (but will melt a hole through your bank account~!) Asus saw that and was like, "Pfft, wait till you see what we've come up with." It's called the Asus Ares 5970, a true-to-life dual 5870 solution that doesn't downclock nothin' for nobody. Slight problem: it might not actually come out here in the U.S.

Posted on March 26, 2010 | No Comments
This is obviously a much older Nano but at <A HREF="">$48 for 1GB, I may get this for my Dad so he can listen to Roy Orbison albums. Again, not amazingly great but $48? Pretty good.

Aspiral Clock makes telling time a ball
Posted on March 15, 2010 | No Comments
Most concept clocks are high on art, and low on functionality. That's not the case with the Aspiral Clock, designed by Will Aspinall and Neil Lambath. Instead of using the standard hands, this clock uses a small ball to tell the time.

Stats show Motorola Droid is the new elephant in the Android room
Posted on November 23, 2009 | No CommentsRemember back in the day when the West was still wild, the gold rush was still in full effect, you owned whatever land you could manage to fence off, and tycoons were being made and broken on a daily basis? No? Well, some of you whippersnappers might be too young to recall it, but trust us, it happened -- and it seems like that's the kind of frontier mentality we're getting again today in the nascent Android landscape. Just a couple weeks after launching, mobile ad clearinghouse AdMob reports that the Motorola Droid is already accounting for a whopping 24 percent of all its Android-based traffic -- no small feat, considering that the then-unreleased device didn't even move the needle in their October report (pictured in the left graph). The HTC Dream -- the world's first retail Android device, you might remember -- still reigns supreme at 36 percent, but it's amazing that the entire Android space is still volatile enough to register nearly a 25 percent shift with the launch of a single new device on a single carrier. For comparison, the CLIQ clocks in with a lowly 6 percent -- proof that Verizon's aggressive advertising has been working some magic. Question is, what'll be the next device to completely screw up this pie chart again?Stats show Motorola Droid is the new elephant in the Android room originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 23 Nov 2009 18:01:00 EST. B&R iPhone app, deux
Posted on August 28, 2009 | No Comments
Yeah, I don't know why they made an another iPhone app either. It seems, after noticing B&R style clocks on the HTC Hero, that there is a real fetish for interface designers over these things. That's the only way I can explain it.

The “Ice Tube” clock classes up your abode with a tasteful steampunk look
Posted on August 24, 2009 | No Comments
Vacuum fluorescent clocks are one of those retro items that always retain their cool. The problem is, they are usually so damn expensive that it's hard to justify buying something just for the cool factor. This kit makes that not so much of a problem.
