Sega says Nintendo 3DS will bring back mature gamers. But let’s not confuse ‘mature’ games with ‘violent’ games.

Sega believes the Nintendo 3DS could be just the thing to win back the hearts and minds of older, more mature gamers, the implication being that your average 20-something doesn't want to play Mario Does His Taxes 8. Games like House of the Dead and Saint's Row were two of the game that Sega referred to in a recent interview.

The Playstation Move vs the Xbox Kinect, may the best motion controller win

It's official on. That is the motion control wars and, don't hate, but Nintendo isn't one of the combatants. Nope, this war is clearly between Microsoft and Sony. It's the Kinect vs the Move. Full body tracking vs 1-1 controller tracking. This is going to turn out great for you, me, and both Sony and Microsoft.

Inkia’s iPad clone, inPad, gets spec’d out

The Inkia inPad is a shameless iPad clone right down to the bezel and name. We first spotted the clone a few weeks back but hardware details didn't accompany the pictures. Basically, a Chinese manufacturer got our attention by photocoping the iPad and installed Android. But we've kind of lost interest now that we know what's on the inside.

  • Yet another so-called iPad killer surfaces, brings a 1Ghz CPU and Android 2.1

Yet another so-called iPad killer surfaces, brings a 1Ghz CPU and Android 2.1

Note to manufacturers and the Internet: Just because a tablet has the latest hardware, can run Flash, and rocks Android, doesn't mean it's going to take over the world. Like this Mastone Lifespad 3G. Technology-wise it's on par with the iPad with it's 1Ghz Freescale CPU, 512MB of DDR2 RAM, and 3G module. Then the Android 2.1 install somewhat tops the iPhone OS with multitasking and the works. But that doesn't mean it's an iPad killer.

Send in the clones: Shanzhai’s version of the Nokia C2 is out there

There’s been rumors floating around about the existence of a Nokia C2, but there really hasn’t been any kind of reliable siting, and a phone with a rotatable screen just seems a bit off. That doesn’t stop the knockoffs from coming out of Shanzhai though, and they’ve already made a clone. No pricing or availability [...]

Boba Fett helmet for your Star Wars-loving mom

Does your mom like to wear helmets? Does she want to be a bounty hunter? Does her dad have millions of clones? Then you’re going to want to hook her up with this $45 Boba Fett helmet. Sadly, this is actually for the kids so you and I won’t be able to wear it. However, if [...]

  • This iPad clone packs Android 2.1, 10-inch screen, and a 1Ghz Cortex-A8 CPU

This iPad clone packs Android 2.1, 10-inch screen, and a 1Ghz Cortex-A8 CPU

iPad clones are hitting the scene at such a rapid pace that we simply can't keep track of all them. Most of them aren't worth your time but this boy is turning heads with specs to die for. Within the clearly iPad-inspired bezel is a 1Ghz ARM Cortex-A8 CPU, 512GB or RAM, 10-inch 1024x600 display, and a 2400mAH battery. All that power should run Android 2.1 without breaking a sweat.

The Asus Eee Keyboard will now be released in April 2010

It seems a little odd that we first saw the Eee Keyboard at CES 2009 and it's still not available. The demo that we played with at least seemed like it was nearly production ready. But here we are over a year later and now the Asus chairman is stating that the new release date is April 2010. Like we haven't heard that one before.

MSI has a $499, 10-inch tablet coming soon, too

Open the floodgates, Jimin! We've got a rush of tablets coming from all directions. Too bad most of the internet will call them iPad clones even though they were clearly in the works for some time, eh? Just like this $500 MSI 10-inch tablet.

  • HP shows off its slate computer while revealing a key disappointing detail (Windows)

HP shows off its slate computer while revealing a key disappointing detail (Windows)

Apple isn't the only company with tablets. HP and Dell showed off its slate concepts at CES '10, but their demo's left us with so many questions. HP's CTO Phil McKinney at least reveals a bit more about his company's offering. But hopefully he's out of the loop a bit and HP actually has more planned for the device. Otherwise, the HP Slate will be about as successful as the HP TouchSmart iMac clones. Phil gives the background about the Slate's development at HP. He explains that the company has been working on the unit for about five years and it started out as an ereadering device. But then as many things do, it evolved into what he's showing off in the video. But this slate is plagued by the same fundamental flaw as the vast majority of the current tablets: Windows. Phil states that the device will run plain-jane Windows 7. That's a problem because even Windows 7 with its added touchscreen capabilities is not suited for extended tablet use without a stylus and Apple/Palm/RIM/HTC has proven to the world that we don't need styluses. BlackBerry, meet TD-SCDMA: RIM partners with China Mobile

Enterprising Chinese have had access to BlackBerrys for some time now, but they've been met with limited sales for many of the same reasons that internationally successful products often fail in China: high prices, cheap clones, and a general lack of understanding of the local market's needs and behaviors. RIM, like any smart manufacturer, would love to find a way to effectively tap into the market, though -- and they're trying to make headway today on news that they've partnered with number one carrier China Mobile on customized devices. By "customized," we mean that these bad boys will support TD-SCDMA, which is China Mobile's proprietary 3G tech -- probably the only carrier in the world that could get away with that, thanks to its nine-figure subscriber count -- and will be offered through local distributor Digital China, whose market expertise RIM is hoping to capitalize. The silver bullet here might be the fact that China Mobile has committed to subsidizing the handsets; China is a huge prepaid market, but if they can get 'em cheap enough, they could have a shot.

BlackBerry, meet TD-SCDMA: RIM partners with China Mobile originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Tue, 08 Dec 2009 21:33:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

New iPhone Knockoffs Are Nearly Indistinguishable From Original

As quickly as gadgets evolve, their knockoffs do, too. Cardboard Gadgets Inspire Rainforest-Destroying Lust

Kyle Bean’s wonderful design project is supposed to be a comment on runaway consumerism. Nice try, Kyle, but you messed up. These cardboard clones are amazing: Far [...]
