CastOven: TV on a microwave? Why not!
Posted on March 30, 2010 | No Comments
Say you're making popcorn but you hate watching the bag expand in the oven as it cooks and you hate it when you have to think you have to touch the bag before it's done. You know what I'm talking about, right? Well now researchers in Japan have added a 10.4-inch LCD to a microwave, creating the CastOven. It plays Internet streams.
Why did they really make this thing? Heck if I know. I guess they really like Internet TV. It runs Adobe Air and is "compatible" with Macs and PCs.

Mix Stix Make Bad Cooks Even More Annoying
Posted on July 16, 2009 | No CommentsThankfully, I can write about these Mix Sticks without trembling in fear that my hippy housemate would see them, get a job, buy them and then spend his days rat-a-tatting all over the my generously shared pots and pans. This is not because he has mended his ways, oh no. It’s because I moved out [...] -
Video: Japan gets a ramen noodle robot
Posted on July 6, 2009 | No CommentsJapan is known as the country of robots, and lately, robot engineers in this country seems to be obsessed with the idea of replacing human cooks and chefs. Following inventions like the sushi or pancake-making robot, it's now time to replace ramen cooks (ramen is a famous Japanese noodle dish). The coolest thing about the ramen robot that's currently working in a restaurant in Yamanashi prefecture (west of Tokyo) is that it's made by the owner of that place. Yoshihira Uchida (who studied electronics in university) says he invested five years and $200,000 in the robot.

A color Kindle is years away, buyers remorse here to stay
Posted on May 29, 2009 | No CommentsHey, Kindle 2 owners, remember when Amazon made the device official and you thought: "Well, it took them a year and a half to replace the old one, so I can buy this one without fears of immediate obsolescence." And then remember how three months later they announced the Kindle DX and you thought: "Oh." Well, if you're now fearing a color Kindle will come sauntering along in a few months to make everyone jealous, fear not, as Jeff Bezos is saying the tech is still "multiple years" away, adding "I've seen the color displays in the laboratory and I can assure you they're not ready for prime time." From the few prototypes we've seen we'd tend to agree. So, anyone still on the fence about a Kindle, go ahead and buy now with confidence, as your devices won't be made to look quaint any time soon -- at least until that pizza box-sized reader Amazon's been working on in secret is announced in July. Did we mention it actually cooks pizza?Filed under: Handhelds
