Black|OPS Assassin PC chills out vertically
Posted on May 10, 2010 | No Comments
Digital Storm announced their latest enthusiast PC, the Black|OPS Assassin. Normally we don't bother telling you about every new computer that hits the market, but this one is actually fairly unique. It's a departure from your standard design in that it uses vertical cooling, and the laws of physics.

NEC develops eco-friendly, super-efficient CPU cooling system
Posted on April 30, 2010 | No Comments
NEC has developed an eco-friendly cooling system for CPUs, claiming the technology [JP] uses uses 60% less energy than a water-cooling system and even 80% less than an air-cooling system. The core of the system is a liquid chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) substitute, which circulates around the CPU to draw away heat and has low greenhouse effects.

Maingear updates the eX-L gaming notebook with new Core i5 & i7 CPUs and ATI Radeon HD 5870
Posted on April 20, 2010 | No Comments
Maingear's eX-L has long been a staple in the gaming notebook scene. The latest update should keep it there, too, with DirectX 11 support courtesy of a little GPU called the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870. The new Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs are nice as well. We won't kick them out of bed but it's the 5870 that we would wine and dine and take home to momma.

The Digital Storm BlackOPS PC gets the Core i7-980X treatment
Posted on March 16, 2010 | No Comments>
These Core i7-980X CPUs are everywhere now. First it was Alienware, then Maingear, now Digital Storm, and there's still at least one more announcement coming today. But Digital Storm wasn't satisfied with the standard 3.33GHz on a stock 980X. Oh no, this Core i7 can be cranked all the way to the breakneck speed of 4.44GHz.

Review: Alienware Aurora ALX
Posted on February 27, 2010 | No Comments
Short version: The Aurora ALX is quite possibly the fastest computer I've ever used. It is in a word, amazing. The water cooling, thermally reactive venting system, and lighting combine to make a system that runs great, looks amazing, and has some innovative features that make you go "duh. why didn't I think of that?" Of course performance has its price, and you will have to pay a premium price for this system.

iBUYPOWER announces liquid cooling for the hot Level 10 tower
Posted on February 11, 2010 | No Comments
I had a chance to see the Thermaltake Level 10 case at CES, and it looks as good in person as it does in the pictures. Of course, the design is intended to provide excellent air cooling, but it looks like iBUYPOWER is taking it one step farther and providing a liquid cooling for it as well.

DIY: Build your own portable 12v air conditioner
Posted on July 15, 2009 | No Comments
If you're like me, and have a car with no air conditioning, you've considered some pretty insane ideas for getting some cool air inside your vehicle. Well there are some incredibly expensive options out there, in some ways it would probably be easier to buy a new car. If you don't want to take it to that extreme, you could always build one of the units described on a recent posting to the instructables site.

Posted on June 25, 2009 | 4 CommentsOh man, it’s hot outside. Maybe Al Gore is onto something. Just think that if you’re this hot, your computer must be roasting. We’ve got the solution: the Domino A.L.C. This compact liquid cooling system installs easily into even cramped cases. It’s self-contained, has an external LCD display, audible alerts, and works with both Intel [...]
As a full time systems administrator, I can tell you without equivocation that IT is hard. There are lots of little problems that occur. Operating systems are fragile. Automation is great, but requires constant vigilance. So I approach things like the ClearBOX with much skepticism. An all-in-one IT solution sounds too good to be true, and it very likely is. I'm sure it offers some great features, and in the right environment it can be a good purchase. But there is no holy grail to unified IT services, because every environment is different, and the only constant is change.
