Leaked Windows Phone 7 ROM filename suggests an HTC Mondrian?

The lads and lassies at XDA-Developers made an intriguing discovery this week: a leaked 100MB file that might be the first Windows Phone 7 ROM actually destined for a device. What's more, it could possibly reveal details about a phone we barely knew existed -- the filename references an "HTC Mondrian." At best, the contents might reveal wonders beyond imagination, including full specs, bundled apps, even the tools needed to properly shoehorn WP7 onto your existing HTC handset. At worst, the community might never open the blasted file, or discover it's all a clever hoax. There's really no indication either way, so we prefer to dream. If you think you've got what it takes, try cracking the ROM yourself at our source link.

China shuts down pretty darn big hacking Web site

Much has been written about China and "hackers" in recent weeks, probably because it contains two items that sound mysterious and scary: China and its rise, which unsettles people who believe the U.S. should run the planet, full stop, and "hacking." Oh, scary hackers! Anyhow, here's another story! A rather large Web site, one allegedly offering software for hacking, has been shut down. The site, Black Hawk Safety Net, was once located at 3800cc.com, but all you get now a bad request.

Touchscreen BlackBerry Bold-esque handset prototype caught on camera, possibly scrapped

Ever since RIM got their act together with the BlackBerry Storm 2, we've been pretty excited about their new-found interest in touchscreens. When word got out not too long ago that RIM was cracking away on a half-touchscreen/half-keyboard hybrid handset (think BlackBerry Bold, with a touchscreen), we started getting all hot around the collar. Word on the street (the cell phone rumor street. It's a tough place.) indicated the handset's nickname was "Dakota". Aaaaaand here it is..

There aren't any pictures of the Corby Pop yet - in its place, please accept this picture of a ham sandwich.

  • It shouldn’t be this difficult to upgrade a hard drive

It shouldn’t be this difficult to upgrade a hard drive

You know what's a little more difficult than I first imagined? Upgrading the hard drive in my late 2006 iMac. I had initially wanted to upgrade the hard drive so I could finally dual boot between Mac OS X and Windows 7, since the old drive, a 250GB model, was pretty much filled to capacity. (Trying to run Mac OS X with only ~5GB of free space isn't ideal.) And even though the iMac user manual clearly states that the only user-replacabable parts are the RAM, I figured, “Bah! I think I can handle a simple hard drive replacement.” I did, but not before wishing I had never so much had broken out a screwdriver.

The official Kindle 2 case is cracking the Kindle 2, $5 million lawsuit filed

It seems that the Kindle 2 has an issue when used with the official protective case: it cracks. Amazon previously stated that owners were kind of out of luck and had to spend [...]
