Where were you when the ILOVEYOU virus was all the rage?
Posted on May 4, 2010 | No CommentsIt was 10 years ago that FC Bayern Munich beat Valencia CF for the UEFA Champions League. (Incidentally, FC Bayern Munich may win again this year when it plays FC Internationale on May 22, but my money's on Inter; the bookies agree) Also 10 years ago: the Lovebug virus wreaked havoc on the Internet. Where were you during this trying time?

Ride the City bike routing service hits the iPhone
Posted on April 19, 2010 | No CommentsFriends of CG Jordan Anderson and Vaidila Kungys, creators of Ride the City New York just released their first Ride the City iPhone app [download] for NYC. The app, like the service, offers safe bike routes through New York and is based on the OpenStreetMap project. It costs $1.99. To use it, you simply enter your start and end points and then follow the route. The map takes into consideration low-traffic roads as well as dedicated bike lanes to get you from point A to a Russian bath house in the East Village. It also works on the iPad, but it will be hard to keep one hand free to signal when you're lugging your slate around.

You know you want to play Resident Evil in 3D
Posted on March 17, 2010 | No CommentsSurely you've heard of Shinji Mikami, right? He's basically "the Resident Evil guy," and he's got 3D on the brain. He told Famitsu, that famous Japanese video game magazine, that he wants to disband his current studio (Straight Story) and form a new one, one for creators, by creators (as opposed to one by run by know-nothing businessmen). This new studio, in a perfect world, would create a 3D horror game.

DECAF, the anti-Microsoft COFEE, now available
Posted on December 15, 2009 | No CommentsYou sorta knew this was going to happen. Microsoft COFEE, a highly secretive forensics tool used by law enforcement, leaked onto the Internet several weeks ago. People far smarter than I got a hold of it, and have created what has been dubbed DECAF, an anti-COFEE set of tools that you can install to block the effects of COFEE.

Raytheon deploying Android-powered RATS on battlefields in Afghanistan and Pakistan
Posted on October 21, 2009 | No CommentsAndroid, Android everywhere. Android, Android in my hair. In my Nook and in my car in my netbook and in my... wait, Afghanistan? It seems defense contractor Raytheon, creators of the famous "pain ray", have launched a device called RATS: the Raytheon Android Tactical System. It allows soldiers to mark other soldiers and even UAVs as "buddies," then track their position in real time on a map, even picking up streaming video coming from above -- sort of like Latitude but putting a whole new spin on stalking. No word on how soldiers like their new devices so far, but once a Twitter app is added we're sure they won't shut up about it.Raytheon deploying Android-powered RATS on battlefields in Afghanistan and Pakistan originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Wed, 21 Oct 2009 08:51:00 EST. Pedal power in the desert: OLPC in Afghanistan
Posted on October 12, 2009 | No Comments
One of the issues with the OLPC project has always been power. There's just not electricity in all the parts of the world where the OLPC is intended to be used. There is a solution available, however, and it's being tested in Afghanistan. We have just seen pictures of the first pedal power conversion for the OLPC.

The latest Stargate Universe trailer clearly shows someone watched BSG
Posted on September 1, 2009 | No CommentsOh man, Stargate Universe launches on October 2nd. I can’t wait even though the latest trailer shows that the show has clearly taken a more edgy stance, which in my mind at least, isn’t what a Stargate show be. But that’s not new info. The creators have stated that SGU will be different for a [...] -
Dear Lord: GTA: Chinatown Wars coming to the iPhone this fall
Posted on August 31, 2009 | No CommentsComing to an iPhone/iPod Touch near you this fall from the creators of the greatest game in history (Editors Note: Well, at least the greatest game in history involving hookers and drugs), Grand Theft Auto, is Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.
