What’s cheaper than buying an anti-RFID wallet?
Posted on June 1, 2010 | No CommentsThe following is in the interest of saving you money, which is probably my number one goal here at CG: preventing you from spending money when you don't have to. I've seen ads on Drudge recently pimping RFID-blocking wallets produced by a company called Identity Stronghold. The idea behind the wallet is to block the RFID chip found in your credit card from being surreptitiously scanned. Now, I'm sure it's a fine product and one that works as advertised; I have no "issue" with said wallet. But that's partially why you can get away with not buying one: it's fairly easy to disable the RFID chip in your credit card. What do you need? Nothing more than a hammer!

Apple changes its tune, will now accept cash for the iPad at the Apple Store
Posted on May 20, 2010 | No CommentsWho didn't see this coming? A few days ago we learned of one woman's inability to buy an Apple iPad with cash at an Apple Store. Store policy was such that they would only accept credit cards or debit cards. Apple was totally in the right legally, but it came across sorta funky, particularly given the woman's backstory. Well, after a few days of bad press Apple has changed the policy: you can now walk into any Apple Store and buy an iPad with cash.

Vindicia to provide payment solution for Boxee’s upcoming for-pay premium content
Posted on May 11, 2010 | No Comments
The future is almost here for Boxee. A few months ago the company announced plans to bring premium for-pay content to the platform. This goal is now one step closer thanks to an agreement with Vindicia who will handle the payment transactions.
The goal is to provide a one-click payment scheme using Vincdicia robust CashBox system as a back-end. The powerful solution currently handles currency exchanges, VAT, and GST automatically, and allows users to pay via credit cards, gift cards, or PayPal. Other sites such as Blizzard's online gaming store, DeviantArt, Symantec already use the payment system.

LEGO synth has you build your sound
Posted on March 4, 2010 | No CommentsJapanese artist / designer Yoshi Akai has quite the repertoire of zany instruments and synthesizers. Posted on December 15, 2009 | No Comments
The duct tape wallet has officially been replaced as the geekest wallet you can make yourself. Although, I must say, it's probably a whole lot more comfortable to carry around in your back pocket then two hard drive platters.

Something about Web scams, and the sites that still support them
Posted on November 24, 2009 | No CommentsTruth be told, I have no idea why I'm about to write this post, other than the fact that it's in my little writing queue. You can't fight City Hall. Here's the deal: the Federal Government of the United States spent a bunch of money investigating various online marketing scams. How they work, what makes people fall for them, etc. Consumers lost some $1.4 billion to such scams.
