Motorola i1 hitting Sprint on June 6, in stores on July 11?
Posted on May 28, 2010 | No CommentsLook, the i1 isn't that spectacular of an Android phone, we know -- but to the iDEN crowd, this represents just about the coolest thing that has ever happened to the network. This shot we've received today seems to indicate that the phone will be available by direct ship on June 6, just over a week from today, while it'll "launch into the rest of the sales channels" on July 11. We're not sure why there's such a gap there, but at least you should have some way to get it in just a few days' time. Interestingly, Sprint is pointing out that the phone "may appeal to customers that may not have previously thought of iDEN as an option," so expect the i1 to get marketed beyond the typical rugged, outdoorsy crowd that usually dominates Direct Connect. Everyone excited?

Common Cents Mobile becomes Sprint’s latest prepaid brand, exclusive to Walmart
Posted on May 13, 2010 | No CommentsThat new prepaid business for the anti-power user crowd that Sprint was fixing to launch? Yeah, it's here and it's official: meet Common Cents Mobile. Billed as a way to help folks "cut unnecessary costs," Common Cents Mobile is about as simple as it gets, offering pay-as-you-go 7-cent minutes and 7-cent text messages, plus unlimited messaging for $20 a month and data for $1 per megabyte per day. The bigger news, though, might be that voice minutes round down, which is a first in the US market as far as we know (in other words, frugal customers will want to make sure they hang up 59 seconds into the minute). As you might expect, the handset selection is bare-bones and easy on the pocketbook, consisting of the LG 101 at $19.77, the Samsung M340 at $39.77, and Kyocera's portrait QWERTY S2300 coming in at $69.77 -- all totally contract-free, of course. Lexar Media, a provider of memory products for digital media, recently announced the release of their Lexar Professional 600x and 300x 32GB CompactFlash cards as well as the Lexar Professional ExpressCard CompactFlash Reader. The products offer improved performance with a guaranteed minimum write speed of 90MB/s and 45MB/s for the 600x and 300x cards, respectively, when paired with an UDMA 6-enable device. The ExpressCard Reader is a portable CF card reader that fits into a PC or Mac ExpressCard slot and supports read/write speeds of up to 133MB/s.

Bad news and good news. You can probably guess the bad news if you read the headline. Plastic Logic has officially delayed the Que. You may recall that the Que was the one e-reader at CES 2010 that stood above the crowd thanks to its very thin casing and large screen. It was supposed to ship mid-April, but the company can't meet that deadline. The new shipping timetable is mid-summer.
