AT&T makes white Bold official: October 18 for $199.99
Posted on October 13, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Handsets, RIM, ATT, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS
RIM kinda already spilled these beans last week at CTIA, but just for good measure, AT&T went ahead and officially announced the white version of the BlackBerry Bold today, and it's exactly as we expected: the launch will come on October 18 for the same price as the black version -- so unless they cut the black's price between now and next week, we're looking at $199.99 on contract after rebate. That's a lot to pay for a year-old phone when the successor is seeming weeks away (at most), but then again, we'll admit it, the white accents suit this phone insanely well -- so well, in fact, that it almost qualifies as a new model as far as we're concerned. Are we crazy?AT&T makes white Bold official: October 18 for $199.99 originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Tue, 13 Oct 2009 11:53:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

CTIA jumps on the micro-USB bandwagon
Posted on October 12, 2009 | No CommentsFiled under: Peripherals, Announcements, Accessories
Think the CTIA is only good for swank trade shows? Think again! It's actually a trade group created to fight for your interests -- or at least those interests of your duly elected wireless providers -- and apparently top among those lists of interests is plug standardization. Yes, we're not the only ones sick of still having a sprawling mess of a gadget charging station, so CTIA is saying that micro-USB will be the power standard for all handsets and mobile devices. Likewise, the 3.5mm audio plug will be the standard for audio output on those same gadgets. It's shocking, we know, if only because we thought the entire gadget universe was already on board, with everyone and their mommas signing up for micro-USB and even HTC finally making room for a 3.5mm hole in the bottom of their handsets. These standards are set to go into effect in January of 2012, meaning we should get a good 11 months or so of dongle-free gadget harmony before the apocalypse.CTIA jumps on the micro-USB bandwagon originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 12 Oct 2009 07:04:00 EST. Samsung’s announcing something at CTIA
Posted on September 14, 2009 | No CommentsSound the alarm! Breaking news! This just in: Samsung, who announces something every week (No. Really.) will be announcing something at CTIA on Wednesday, October 7th. To be honest, we actually expect them to announce multiple somethings at CTIA – but this one was big enough that they wanted to highlight it. With that said, here’s [...] -
Garmin Nuvifone coming in Q4, just in time for people to still not care
Posted on August 5, 2009 | No CommentsIn January of 2008, Garmin announced the Nuvifone. They were a bit light on details at the time (Who would offer it? How much would it cost?) but promised that it would be on the shelves by the third quarter of the same year. Well, that quarter passed. Then the next one. Jump forward a few [...] -
Qualcomm SSLS: eZone hitting the market in 2010
Posted on July 29, 2009 | No Comments
Inductive charging is slowly making its way into the consumer market space and should hit its stride next year. We’ve already seen devices that utilize inductive charging with the Palm Pre and its Touchstone charger as well as Energizer’s Wii Induction Charging System. There are other devices out on the market, but those come to mind right off the bat.
