AIR for Android app turns Nexus One into slot car controller (video)

AIR for Android, a Phidgets motor control, a slot car set, and a custom built LEGO housing for good measure -- if this project isn't meant for Engadget, we don't know what is! The premise is pretty straightforward: Grant Skinner uses his Nexus One to send accelerometer data to a desktop PC, which then sends it to a motor controller. In turn, the controller tells the cars how fast to go. Tilt forward a little bit, and the car accelerates a little bit. Lean forward a lot, and it picks up speed. Sure beats those cheesy plastic triggers we used as kids! For the interface (which is an SWF that's sent to the handset from the host PC) our man designed a gas pedal with a series of lights that tells you how fast you're going. Fujitsu specs, prices and dates its 3D PC with integrated 3D camera

Teased last month, announced [JP] today: Fujitsu took the wraps off a 3D desktop PC that has a quite unique selling point: it comes with a camera that lets users shoot pictures and video in 3D. The ESPRIMO FMV FH550/3AM will not only display user-generated 3D content on its 20-inch screen but also 3D Blu-rays and 3D video from other sources.

Fujitsu teases 3D desktop PC with built-in 3D camera

Another day, another 3D-related tech news item from Japan. This time, it's a 3D-powered desktop PC Fujitsu is currently demoing at a two-day company event (Fujitsu Forum [JP]) in Tokyo. It's not only able to display 3D images but also has a 3D camera built-in (just above the display).

NEC plans to ship 3D desktop PCs later this year

Virtually every Japanese tech company has made some 3D-related announcement in the past months, but one remained suspiciously quiet in that area: NEC. We covered their (apparently very cool) glasses-free 3D 12.1-incher last year (it's yet to be commercialized), and today NEC made some initial announcements about a 3D desktop PC that's supposed to hit Japanese stores by year-end.

As part of a "digital classroom" roadshow currently underway in Germany, Samsung is showing off it's new "e-board". This e-board, in 65" and 82" sizes, is a really interesting convergence of e-book reader, smartboard, and classroom display solution. In addition to typical smartboard functionality, it can also display the desktop of a connected PC or laptop, as well as display contents from Samsung ebook readers using their new "emoLink" technology.

The Google Phone: This changes everything (mostly)

We don't have much information on the Google Phone just yet. In fact, it sounds more like a party favor than anything else. However, if and when Google starts selling this thing, prepare for some of the strangest - and coolest - times in mobile we've ever experienced.
What do we know? It's an HTC phone - probably the Passion, a distant cousin to the beautiful HD2 - with large touchscreen. It's GSM unlocked and everyone at Google has one so whatever the super secret specs are, they won't stay super secret for long.
But what if Google starts to sell this thing? This is "a big deal" on the level of Neo learning Kung Fu in The Matrix. This means Google is making hardware.

Alienware announced yesterday they will “shake the gaming world to its foundation” at the Tokyo Game Show 2009. Well, the show started today, I went there and played Resident Evil 5 (and a bunch of other titles, for example Streetfighter 4) on Alienware hardware. I'm not sure if the gaming world is really that different when compared to yesterday, but all the games did look damn impressive on the Alienware notebooks and desktop computers.
