TRON controllers will be available for purchase

Rejoice user! Devin won't be keeling over from auto-erotic asphyxiation after all. The TRON controllers that he saw at E3 and threatened to hold his breath over? Well, they are going to be for sale. To be honest, I haven't considered replacing my stock Xbox 360 controllers until this point, but now I'm afraid I have no choice.

Borders’ Kobo e-reader now comes with $20 gift certificate; iPhone, iPad App now available

The wonderful thing about all these e-readers is that so long as you buy one that has honest-to-goodness E-Ink (Kindle, nook, Kobo, etc.) you're basically using the same device. The most important part of an e-reader is the screen, so when all the big guys use the exact same technology, well, you should be just fine. Then it comes down to store quality: does Amazon have the books you want to read or does Barnes & Noble or Borders? That's the most "research" you'll have to conduct. Moving on... in light of the nascent price war between Amazon and Barnes and Noble, Borders would like you to know that its Kobo e-reader now includes a $20 gift card and double Borders Bucks for whenever you drop cash in the store.

Sony: E-books are here to stay (so get used to it)

Sony says there will be more digital book content than physical book content within five years. Or, in English, e-books will overtake "regular" books by 2015. This is terrible news for people like Devin and John, people who appreciate books not merely for the words they contain but for the form they take. It's less of an issue for people like me, people who are, in fact, merely interested in reading the words, whether they're on paper or papyrus or on an e-ink screen.

A concept ambidextrous mouse, for your perusal

Do you like computer mice? Do you like ambidexterity? Do you like looking at renderings of concept products that are not yet real? Today, my friend, is your lucky day. Gaze upon the Nink wireless optical mouse. Imagine the feel of that corrugated shell under either your right or your left palm. Visualize the sensation of using either index finger to tenderly scroll that wheel up and down, up and down. You can almost feel the mild resistance as the Nink lovingly caresses your desk, gliding back and forth at your slightest bidding...

  • HP shows off its slate computer while revealing a key disappointing detail (Windows)

HP shows off its slate computer while revealing a key disappointing detail (Windows)

Apple isn't the only company with tablets. HP and Dell showed off its slate concepts at CES '10, but their demo's left us with so many questions. HP's CTO Phil McKinney at least reveals a bit more about his company's offering. But hopefully he's out of the loop a bit and HP actually has more planned for the device. Otherwise, the HP Slate will be about as successful as the HP TouchSmart iMac clones. Phil gives the background about the Slate's development at HP. He explains that the company has been working on the unit for about five years and it started out as an ereadering device. But then as many things do, it evolved into what he's showing off in the video. But this slate is plagued by the same fundamental flaw as the vast majority of the current tablets: Windows. Phil states that the device will run plain-jane Windows 7. That's a problem because even Windows 7 with its added touchscreen capabilities is not suited for extended tablet use without a stylus and Apple/Palm/RIM/HTC has proven to the world that we don't need styluses. (stylii?)

  • Is Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol the first e-book to outsell its hardcover counterpart?

Is Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol the first e-book to outsell its hardcover counterpart?

What's the one area of technology that I'm still relatively keen on? That's right: e-books, but that's because I like the idea of having several books on my person at all times in a device that fits inside my trousers. (The latest: The Wages of Destruction by Adam Tooze. Not an e-book, by the way, since I'm not made of money.) Devin, on the other hand, who also reads his share of books, is not as big a fan of the tech. We're like The Odd Couple! Anyway, I bring this up because it looks like Dan Brown's latest novel, The Lost Symbol, is the first book on record that is selling better on the Amazon Kindle than its hardcover counterpart. (Blah, blah, the death of books...)
