Motorola expects Android 2.2 update to hit Droid ‘in the near future’
Posted on May 24, 2010 | No CommentsHearing Google say that Android 2.2 would be filtering out to the Nexus One in short order was no huge shock -- after all, it's Google's first smartphone. But for those who purchased Motorola's first heavy-hitter since the RAZR, it looks as if they'll be close behind in enjoying the spoils. According to a Motorola spokesperson quoted at Slashgear (full statement is past the break), the company is expecting the original Droid to get Android 2.2 "in the near future," though he / she wouldn't go so far as to provide specifics beyond that. Better still, the same person stated that Motorola is excited about Froyo in general, and it's "looking forward to integrating it on [the firm's] Android-based devices as [the software] is made available." We hate to read too deeply into anything, but "devices" sure gets our digits tingling.

Surprise! The HTC Legend preps for landing on AT&T by way of the FCC
Posted on May 4, 2010 | No Comments
The Legends are coming! The Legends are coming!
I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the HTC Legend. Sure, it's not the most powerful piece of kit in HTC's armory - but it's made of friggin' metal. You could give this phone to a bear for a few hours and have it come back mostly functioning. Can you imagine a world where bears have cell phones of their very own? That's a world I'd want to live in.
Though I don't believe they'll sell to bears, it looks like AT&T might be selling the Legend before too long.

Resistive screens are dead: HTC now selling a stylus for capacitive screens
Posted on January 15, 2010 | No CommentsWhen it comes to touchscreens, you just can’t beat the feeling of a nice, high-quality capacitive screen. If you’ve been using an iPhone, Motorola Droid, or any one of many capacitive smartphones made in the past few years, try to hunt down one with a resistive screen; the difference is almost shocking. Touches to a [...] -
Two-factor authentication now available for Amazon Web Services
Posted on September 1, 2009 | No Comments
Passwords suck. A good password is hard to remember, and a weak password is easy to guess. There are lots of attempts at finding ways to solve the problems of passwords, like one-time passwords, biometric authentication, and more. One of the most attractive solutions is two-factor authentication, which requires that you know something (a short passphrase, usually), and that you have something. The thing that you have is most often a little token generator: every 30 or 60 seconds a new set of digits is displayed on a screen. To successfully log in, you need to supply the passphrase that you know along with the digits displayed on the token. Big businesses have been using two-factor authentication for some time. Now it's being made available for anyone with an Amazon Web Services account.

HTC working on a stylus for capacitive screens?
Posted on August 14, 2009 | No CommentsMeat digits. Sausage fingers. Call them what you will, but some people’s hands are just a bit larger than others. “Finger friendly” for one person doesn’t necessarily mean “finger friendly” for another. As of late, the trend in handsets has been toward capacitive touchscreens, which is bad news for the big-boned; while the screens [...] -
OLED Digital Clock is Nothing But Numbers
Posted on July 13, 2009 | No CommentsYou know those analog clocks which are nothing but a pair of hands on a spindle, distilling the function of the timekeeper down to its bare, concentrated essentials? The Black & White Clock is like that, only it’s digital. The clock consists of numbers only: no case, no background, no nothing. Four OLED shapes mimic the [...]

You’ve been adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing all day long. The sweat gathers in the arm pit region of your short-sleeve button-down work shirt. Your pocket protector feels like it weighs a thousand pounds. Only 15 minutes to go and you can hop in your Subaru, drive home, and take a nice, long shower. If only there was a shower curtain to reflect your status as one of the world’s most elite mathletes.
Awww, schweeeeeet! This calculator says, “Hey, I need a calculator but I want people to know that I’m down with video games. Please don’t step, mess, or front. I got eight digits to work with, B.”
