iCitizen 2010: Dinosaurs in your phone?
Posted on May 7, 2010 | No CommentsWhile I was recently attending the iCitizen 2010 Symposium, Noora Guldemond, Head of Marketing at Metaio—a company focused on developing Augmented Reality experiences—showed me a few recent AR examples her company developed. This Jurasic Park example curiously doesn’t have the usual black and white “target” that I normally recall seeing in many AR demos. In [...] -

Vitamin D video surveillance system is out of beta, multiple camera versions cost $49/$199
Posted on February 8, 2010 | No Comments
Vitamin D Video has officially gone out of beta and is now available in 1.0. The basic, single camera version of the software is available now for free while a two camera version costs $49 and unlimited cameras costs $199. The software watches a web-based camera - including many popular models from Linksys and D-Link - and records motion as it it happens, even alerting you when humans step into the frame.
I've been using the beta for months now with a Linksys WVC54GCA and I consider the software an early warning system for the home. Since I work up in the attic I can't always tell if I'm facing a friend or a foe at the front door so I rely on Vitamin D to ping whenever someone comes into the frame. Special motion sensing systems also pick up lights and other activity outside while the system can also email clips to a mailbox whenever an event occurs or ring a chime.

Sonorasaurus, dinosaur DJ of the Cretaceous Period. Now on your iPhone!
Posted on December 7, 2009 | No Comments
If we keep releasing iPhone DJ apps, we need to come up with a new moniker instead of "disc jockey." But "file jockey" or MP3 spinner" just don't roll off the tongue as easily. Sonorasaurus has just released version 1.1 of their iPod Touch/iPhone DJ app. You know, for those long road trips where just putting your iPod on shuffle isn't enough.

Thanko’s USB powered, Dinosaur foot-shaped slipper keeps your feet warm
Posted on November 12, 2009 | No Comments
OK, now the USB gadget craze gets really silly. Tokyo-based crap USB accessory maker Thanko has been selling USB-powered slippers and gloves that are supposed to keep you warm in the past, but the new model, Dinosaur foot-shaped slipper(s) [JP] (of all things), is probably the silliest.

Pleo is back, thanks to electronics and entertainment leader Senario, and we want to give you one.
The $349 artificial dinosaur hit the news this April when Ugobe, its creator, filed for bankruptcy. However, it is thankfully still available from web outlets such as Amazon, Target, Best Buy and BotaBingBotaBoom. In July, it will also be sold on QVC Live, followed by the Sharper Image's Online Store.

RAWR (it means I LOVE YOU! in Dinosaur), Verizon FiOS
Posted on June 17, 2009 | No Comments
After 10 days of waiting for my Verizon FiOS install, I finally have Internet and cable in my new apartment. Goodbye, Time Warner. You put up a good fight by offering free Showtime for a year and knocking a few bucks off the bill, but I don't care about CallerID on my TV or NY1. RAWR, Verizon FiOS, RAWR. It's certainly not as fast at Nicholas's OOLU, but it's good enough for me. Hit the jump for speeds.
Remember the good old days when video game machines ALWAYS came with a free game? Sometimes even two! Nintendo had Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt, Sega had Hang On! and Astro Warrior. Well that gravy train ended a while ago but you can hop back on, today only, as Amazon is offering a free game or headset with the purchase of a white Nintendo DSi.
