It’s real: iPad Arcade…well at least its not fake

When Think Geek posted this image on April Fools Day, it was apparent that it wasn’t real. While a disappointment to some gamers, it also became an inspiration for one Hideyoshi Moriya. iCade lives!

Photofast to bring camera to iPad, unless Apple beats them to it

Photofast, a company known for producing flash memory products, has entered the realm of Apple accessories, most notably iPad accessories. The main disappointment we always had with the iPad was the lack of a camera. However, to see a Microsoft camera used as the capturing device, is well, a bit odd.

One more time, or the next installment in the Hero upgrade saga

Ok. I'm very nearly at the point where I don't want to keep posting on this, but I'm eternally optimistic, so here goes: An internal Best Buy Document has leaked all over Android Central's best shirt, claiming that the Android 2.1 upgrade date for the eternally neglected Sprint Hero will be the 21st of May.

Nokia Head of Design Marko Ahtisaari talks about priorities, competition, and future direction

Marko Ahtisaari will be a familiar name to Dopplr users, being both the CEO and one of the major investors in the startup's social networking software. Having been acquired by Nokia in late September 2009, his team now works to help Symbian regain its world-conquering ways while Marko himself has returned to Nokia to helm its Design group -- an outfit that, judging by the world's disappointment with the N97 and other devices, is frankly in need of some fresh ideas. So, when we were invited to meet him this morning for a journalist get-together where Marko hoped to "begin the conversation" about Nokia's future direction, we grabbed our pen, paper and DSLR and rushed off to go have a listen. The camera came in use when we got to handle a Nokia N8 prototype for the first time, but do join us after the break to see what else we learned.

  • Current T-Mobile customers having hard time upgrading to HTC HD2 (updated with statement)

Current T-Mobile customers having hard time upgrading to HTC HD2 (updated with statement)

First, the good news: T-Mobile's HD2 is in stock online and apparently at many corporate-owned retail locations. Now, the bad: the carrier seems to be putting these things on lockdown right now, only offering them to new customers signing up for a fresh contract. This is a tactic T-Mobile has applied in the past, so we're not terribly surprised to see them do it here, too -- but it's still a disappointment, especially considering that the phone has been out for a few weeks now. Just goes to show you that a net add is worth considerably more than a loyal customer is (particularly one who's still under contract), but in the meantime, might we recommend the iHTC HD2?

Update: We've received an official statement from T-Mobile on the matter, and it sounds like they're "giving priority to existing customers" with new inventory coming in. Sweet! Here's the full verbiage:
"T-Mobile understands the inventory challenges for the HTC HD2 and continues to work diligently in order to supply our customers with this highly popular product. As we receive additional inventory of the HTC HD2, we are giving priority to our existing customers. However, the demand for the device is still exceeding our supply.

Depending on the location, some T-Mobile retail stores may still have some HTC HD2 inventory available. We suggest that interested customers contact their local T-Mobile store via phone before visiting to see if they have the HTC HD2 available. If they do not have the HTC HD2 available, some stores are taking names and contact information, and will be able to notify customers once that location has product available."

Sprint Hero NOT Getting Android 2.1 on May 7th

Although I'm sure you're used to the disappointment by now, it pains me to tell you this: the Sprint Hero won't be getting its much-hoped-for update to Android 2.1 this Friday. A Sprint Community Administrator has closed the thread where the original rumour surfaced, stating:
"Closing this thread because I don’t want folks to think that 2.1 is coming out on the 7th."
So, there you go. Pick your heart off of the floor, and go back to your shattered Android dreams (of electric sheep).

Android 2.1 at Fault for Nexus One Screen Issues? Droid Owners Beware!

No doubt by now you've heard that the screen on Google's Nexus One is apparently worse than the screen on Motorola's Droid. The story goes that images on the Nexus One aint be poppin' like they do on the Droid, and a study by DisplayMate apparently confirmed this. But now that Droids have been updated to Android 2.1, users have begun to complain that images displayed on their Droids look about as good as they did in the Commander Keen days. So, what's the story?

Nintendo 3DS: Look who just innovated itself out of a paper bag!

The beauty of the Internet is that it demands instant analysis of every single development to come out of Peoria. The Nintendo 3DS—out of Kyoto, which is not Peoria, I'm afraid—was announced overnight, time zone permitting. It will debut at E3 in June, and it will forever change the way you and I... do something. Something video game-related, methinks.

TNA Wrestling can trend on Twitter just fine, but can it draw actual TV ratings? (No.)

We're all well aware that Twitter represents man's best chance of Redemption. No one's disputing that. What is in dispute today is just how representative Twitter is of The Real World. Case in point: TNA Wrestling made its long awaited move to Monday nights this week, and all throughout the night "TNA" was a trending topic on Twitter. We've been led to believe that anything that trends on Twitter is hugely important, not merely in the cozy confines of the Twitterverse, but all over Planet Earth. Explain this, then: the show only drew a 0.98 rating (it rounds up to a 1.0). I thought Twitter = ratings?

How TiVo missed the mark with the new Premiere

Excuse me while I let off a little steam. I was a tad hasty in my proclamation yesterday that the TiVo Premiere changes everything. It doesn’t. In fact, it doesn’t change anything. It’s a big pile of disappointment and missed opportunity. TiVo doesn’t release hardware that often so when it does, it better be good. Tivos have a ridiculously [...]

BioShock 2: Great, good, or sorta meh?

So, BioShock 2. Presumably you've heard of it. It comes out today, and I really can't figure out how I'm supposed to feel. I've read plenty of reviews—Rock, Paper, Shotgun's is my favorite—and they're sorta all over the place. We weren't cool enough to get a review copy, but that's not a big deal; Steam to the rescue.

Motorola Droid getting 2.0.1 now, Verizon posts details

digg_url ='http://digg.com/gadgets/Motorola_Droid_getting_2_0_1_now_Verizon_posts_details'; The "coming weeks" timeframe that Verizon had promised for 2.0.1 to start pushing to Droids has been mercifully condensed down to just a few days, because a number of folks are starting to report that they're receiving the update on their retail units today -- and we've been able to confirm with the company that it's going down. That's great news for a Monday, we'd say, and if you haven't gotten the update just yet, Big Red has now posted update instructions and details on the Droid's support site that should be enough to tide you over for a few minutes. In brief, this looks like bug-fix nirvana with improved stability and battery life, better camera and call quality, faster visual voicemail, and a host of other goodies -- anyone hoping for new features is probably primed for disappointment, but we'll take what we can get. Keep an eye on your Droid today, owners, and let us know how the experience treats you.

AT&T’s new iPhone app conveys your disappointment in real time

OK, so the bigwigs at AT&T and Verizon have learned to make nice (for the time being at least), but what's a hapless iPhone user to do about dropped calls and other network problems? The AT&T Mark The Spot app offers long-suffering (or even the intermittently bedeviled) customers the ability to ping their carrier in real time, with location-specific feedback, should one experience a coverage crisis.
