    Scientists make flat ice

flat-iceIce doesn't get me very excited. I rarely get ice in my beverages because it's merely "delayed water". But some scientists have been studying ice, and have created a completely flat sheet of ice only two molecules thick. Apparently ice normally forms in a "puckered" layered formation. Thrilling! All you need is some graphene, platinum, a vacuum, and the ability to lower temperatures to 125 kelvin (about negative 235 F, or the temperature on the dark side of the moon).

    Quick Look: Plantronics Discovery 975

I don’t use many Bluetooth headsets - I rarely drive - but I found the Discover 975 to be a welcome addition to the headset pantheon. Unlike larger - or, dare I say, smaller - headsets the D975 seems just the right size for easy insertion and removal and it is unobtrusive enough to avoid [...]

  • Dell’s Mini 10v gets unboxed, cracked wide open, fitted with OS X

Dell’s Mini 10v gets unboxed, cracked wide open, fitted with OS X

Not that Dell's other Mini machines aren't perfect candidates for creating your own hackintosh, but it's stellar to know that the outfit's newest member is as well. After going on sale earlier this month, the Mini 10v has been procured, unboxed and dissected, all in the name of unabashed discovery. Interestingly, it seems as if the RAM slot requires that the keyboard and motherboard be lifted for access, but for even the mildly seasoned computer user, that's absolutely nothing they can't handle. If you're into hardcore, uncensored splayings of newfangled netbooks, the read link is where you need to be, holmes.

    LG’s LH55 series of 1080p, 240Hz LCDs now shipping

LG's LH55 series of 1080p, 240Hz LCDs now shippingRemember all those LCDs LG flooded us with at CES earlier this year? Another set of them is shipping, the LH55 models in sizes ranging from 37- to 55-inches. These don't have any of the fancy internet connectivity or wireless HDMI tricks offered by some of the company's more flash sets, but all offer 1080p resolutions at TruMotion 240Hz refresh rates, 80,000:1 contrast ratios, and other niceties like auto-calibration and Clear Voice II, which pledges to ensure dialogue doesn't get washed out by heavyhanded soundtracks. They're all Energy Star 3.0 certified, too, so you'll feel a little more green while watching that Discovery Earth Blu-ray on a television that's almost five feet on the diagonal. MSRPs range from $1,399 up to $3,899, so get bargain hunting.
