AT&T iPhone tethering to cost $20 a month extra, requires you to ditch your unlimited data plan
Posted on June 2, 2010 | No Comments
Gather round, everyone! It's time for this week's edition of "Good news, bad news" -- only this week, "bad news" is being supplanted by "terrible news".
The good news: As we touched upon earlier, AT&T has finally confirmed that iPhone tethering will launch this summer.
The badterrible news: You'd have to be pretty crazy to bother with it. -
Video: LG Panther WinPho 7 phone starts up for all to see
Posted on May 25, 2010 | No Comments
Would ya looky here! Looks like someone over at Innovative Singapore has posted a video that shows what it would be like to turn on a WinPho 7 phone for the very first time.
The device shown in the video (and right here) is the LG Panther, which has been making its way around the webs for a little while now.
It seems that LG will ditch the "Panther" monicker for a much more memorable "GW910", which is an issue I'll be taking up with their marketers directly.

PANIC! Study finds that students are addicted to their iPhones!!
Posted on March 9, 2010 | No Comments
200 students surveyed in a Stanford study were found to be "addicted" to their iPhones. "When asked to rank their dependence on the iPhone on a scale of one to five – five being addicted and one being not at all addicted – 10 percent of the students acknowledged full addiction to the device, 34 percent ranked themselves as a four on the scale, and only 6 percent said they weren't addicted at all."

Syabas’ $130 Popbox video streamer, everyone
Posted on January 4, 2010 | No Comments
Hello, beautiful. We knew Syabas had a new 1080p video streamer in the works, but not one that looks this fine. The Popbox seems to be a more consumer-friendly and non-nerdy Popcorn Hour with a totally reworked UI. Plus, it's a whole lot less at only $130.

Palm Pixi clears FCC with Verizon frequencies and WiFi in tow
Posted on December 13, 2009 | No CommentsIf you were looking for just one more reason to ditch Sprint then this could be it. A CDMA-flavored Palm Pixi just cleared the FCC -- yes, another one -- and we can say with confidence it's not coming to Sprint this time around. Better yet, Palm's model P121EWW matches up with that P121 code we saw leaked a while back for Big Red (Sprint's model is P120EWW), and this sucker got tested for 802.11b/g WiFi. Looks like that Sprint ad touting the Pixi's non-existent WiFi was more than just wishful thinking. With webOS-powered Palm gear already confirmed on Verizon for "early next year," are you really going to make the jump to a WiFi-less Pixi on Sprint knowing what's on the way? And more importantly, can we expect another terrifying series of ads targeting Sprint this time instead of AT&T?Palm Pixi clears FCC with Verizon frequencies and WiFi in tow originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 13 Dec 2009 12:38:00 EST. Amidio’s Touch DJ app stuffs a turntable into your iPhone (video)
Posted on November 22, 2009 | No CommentsNot kosher with getting a handset tailor made for DJing? How's about transforming your existing iPhone into that very device when the mood strikes you? Hailed as the first true DJ MP3 iPhone / iPod touch app in the world, Amidio's $19.99 Touch DJ program (available now) enables users to independently manipulate two MP3 or M4A files, including scratching, looping, positioning, equalization, effects and pitching. The "visual mixing" requires all sorts of tapping and sliding, but the on-screen UI seems pretty elegant from what we've seen. The only real knock on this is that there's currently no way to get music from the iTunes library into the program; instead, you'll be forced to reload tracks into the app's own MP3 library. Still, for those looking to ditch the hard case and waltz in with a pocketful of boogie, this ain't a half bad option. Check the demonstration vid after the break.Continue reading Amidio's Touch DJ app stuffs a turntable into your iPhone (video)

Android-powered Motorola Motus caught on film, apparently in the middle of an earthquake
Posted on November 19, 2009 | No Comments
There seems to be an unspoken style guideline amongst spy shot shooters: find the worst lighting possible, ditch the flash, and down 3-4 cups of coffee before snapping away. Unfortunately, the spy behind this shot of the Android-powered Motorola Motus played by all the rules.

DIY: DSLR hand strap
Posted on October 19, 2009 | No Comments
I'm not a big fan of the camera neck strap. I never use it as a neck strap but I put up with it because I would drop my camera if that strap wasn't there. However, I'm going to ditch that strap and make me one of these hand straps. That is, of course, if something else on the Internet doesn't distract me first.

HTC working on a stylus for capacitive screens?
Posted on August 14, 2009 | No CommentsMeat digits. Sausage fingers. Call them what you will, but some people’s hands are just a bit larger than others. “Finger friendly” for one person doesn’t necessarily mean “finger friendly” for another. As of late, the trend in handsets has been toward capacitive touchscreens, which is bad news for the big-boned; while the screens [...] -
myTouch 3G now available in T-Mobile stores
Posted on August 5, 2009 | No CommentsIf you’re ready to ditch that G1 and upgrade to a phone that’s actually good looking (kidding), you better head down to the local T-Mobile establishment. Today is the day that the myTouch 3G finally hits the shelves. Peter found it to be a totally worthy successor to the G1. Of course if you’re still [...] -
Verizon to sell Palm Pre next year, long national nightmare is over
Posted on July 27, 2009 | No CommentsVerizon confirmed in an analyst conference call that the Palm Pre, the little smartphone the could, will be available on Verizon’s network between Q1 and the end of Q2 next year. This should come as a relief to people who are waiting to ditch their Blackberry Storms for Palm’s new offering. There’s not much more info [...]
