But this is 2010, which means you spend fifty bucks, slap a little black box to the bottom of your iPhone, and call it good. L5's self-named L5 Remote for the iPhone and iPod touch involves a free download from the App Store paired with a 1.25 x 0.85-inch dongle, together creating a solution capable of storing up to 1,000 configurable screens and controlling devices from up to 30 feet away. Lenovo: 80% of the technology will run on the mobile web by 2015

Lenovo company chief Yang Yuanqing said that soon the majority of Lenovo products would run on the mobile web, meaning a cross of 3G and 4G technologies. Most of their current line comes with 3G built in and their ThinkPad line is just screaming out for mobile web simply because it is aimed at the on-the-go professional.
What think I on this topic? I think Lenovo is unqiuely placed to take advantage of the mobile web, along with Dell and HP. All three are seen as "business" notebook manufacturers, for better or worse, and that's a low margin business. By adding 3G capabilities out of the box they presumably get a cut from the carriers as they sell more units.

Tivit promises to bring Mobile DTV to the iPhone and other WiFi-equipped mobile devices
Posted on January 4, 2010 | No CommentsThe Mobile DTV standard is official, sure, but the device selection at this point isn't what we'd call plentiful or even appealing -- so leave it to CES to attract a virtually unknown company with an attractive alternative. Dubbed Tivit, the pocketable box is a said to be a bit smaller and lighter than a deck of cards and claims to stream television to a number of WiFi-enabled devices, including Windows laptops, Motorola Android phones (no clue why other Android devices wouldn't be in the running here), WiFi-equipped BlackBerrys, and even iPhone 3G / third-gen iPod touch (software via related App Store download). One charge gets you three hours of reception, and while that $120 price tag isn't too terrible a fee for keeping the phone you like, when the dongle launches in Spring, it better hope the channel selection is more interesting. The company now called Square, as we noted back in October, has launched a website for its iPhone payment dongle, although it's still in somewhat private beta testing. TechCrunch managed to catch up with Dorsey, who gave a brief overview of the product and then showed it off by charging $4 for a cup of coffee -- so it goes in San Francisco.
