Halo: Reach Trailer to Come in Two Days

I can't believe I'm actually going to say this. This Saturday at 8 PM, I know without a doubt I will be sitting on my couch, watching Spike TV. There are only two things which could cause me to do this. One would be if the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show was moved from CBS to Spike. The other, which will actually be happening, is to watch the Video Game Awards, where the global unveiling of Halo: Reach is going down. Given what Bungie has done thus far with the Halo series, I expect nothing short of greatness from Reach, which is slated to drop in Q4, 2010.

Surprise! There will be another iPhone next year

After 3 years of back-to-back new iPhones, it probably doesn’t take a whole lot of guts (or brains, for that matter) to predict that Apple will be announcing a new iPhone in 2010. But when this guy comes along and says that the orders been placed, pretty much all doubt goes out the door. Early today, [...]

iHandstick snap-on dresses your iPhone / iPod Touch up as a Playstation controller

The iPod touch (and technically the iPhone as well) may well be "the funnest iPod ever," but it can also be the most awkward device to hold for prolonged gaming sessions, nor have previous attempts made things any better. The iHandstick might just do the job -- while we can't credit them for originality, this hollow cousin of the Playstation controller may satisfy owners of iPod touch 2G / 3G and iPhone 3G / 3GS. Remember, it should give a similar grip enjoyed by millions of Playstation gamers over the last 15 years. The only doubt left is whether our thumbs can easily reach the virtual buttons on the screen. Wanna give this a shot? $16.99 plus shipping and it's all yours.

  • Storm 2 hitting Verizon with ‘MiFi capability?’

Storm 2 hitting Verizon with ‘MiFi capability?’

We can't confirm this Verizon Infomanager screen at this point, but if true, when the BlackBerry Storm 2 launches on the network, one of the big touted features will be its MiFi capabilities for sharing 3G internet over WiFi. It'd be smart branding move, sure, but MiFi is also the name Novatel uses for its hardware, so either we're talking here about an application of some sort or it's just internal communications short-hand. Also mentioned here is an October 21st launch, although it's been noted by Crackberry that the date's apparently been replaced with TBA. Without a doubt, we can confidently say we'll know for sure in the next, oh, 52 hours or so.

    [Thanks, Marc-Anthony S.]

Verizon officially confirms they’re getting the Moto Sholes/Droid via Twitter

Considering that this thing has been spotted rocking the VZW branding countless times and Big Red's own execs have been seen with them in hand, there should be all of zero doubt in anyone's mind that the Motorola Droid (otherwise known as Tao, or Sholes) is destined for the carrier. With that said, it's always nice to see official confirmation, and it just came. Was there a big announcement? Nope. Press Release? Nuh uh. Random tweet from VZW? Yep.

    Re-Re-Confirmed: Virgin confirms they’re getting the Rumor2

After we heard from a trusted source that Virgin Mobile was getting the Rumor2 a few weeks ago, there was pretty much zero doubt in our mind. After mentionings of the Rumor2 popped up on Virgin’s own site this morning, it was pretty much concrete. We don’t think there’s a single soul out there who would [...]

Desktop Factory hits the dead pool

Goodbye, Desktop Factory, we hardly knew ye. This company was supposed to offer a sub-$5,000 desktop 3D printer. Alas, they are no more and they’ve sold their IP and assets to an unnamed buyer. But a funny thing happened as we launched our effort to sell Desktop Factory. We found interested parties who do understand [...]

    Review: Colasoft Capsa network analyzer

matrix-view2Chances are, if you're in charge of supporting a network of any size, you'll need to look at the actual packets that are passing back and forth across that network. Whether it's to see whether a specific machine is sending or receiving packets as it should, or you want to see the contents of the packets themselves, you'll need to break out a packet sniffer. There are lots of packet sniffers out there, with lots of different features and lots of different pricing models. Today we'll look at Colasoft's Capsa network analyzer.

Chinese iPhone to sell 1 million units first year

iPhonAsia has some information on China's exciting WiFi-crippled iPhone. The device will cost less than the smuggled, grey-market iPhones currently available in China and will include special apps for the Chinese consumer. Considering Apple and China's track record these last few weeks I wonder how much good will Apple last left in the land of the violent Foxconn security team.

popsicleYum. Ice cream bars and external data solutions are, without a doubt, two of my favorite things. Actually, I don't back up all that often (I'm in the cloud, baby!) and frozen confections give me headaches. But this concept actually makes a whole lot of sense and it looks good, to boot.

  • Palm Pre said to sync up nicely with Apple’s iTunes

Palm Pre said to sync up nicely with Apple’s iTunes

There's been no direct confirmation just yet, but Fortune has it that Palm's hotly anticipated Pre actually syncs with iTunes. Yeah, iTunes. According to the report, the Pre works "seamlessly" with iTunes on a Mac, with the only notable limitation being that it can't handle older DRM-laced files from the sad, sad days of our past. Even wilder, we're told that the iTunes Store "treats the Pre just as it would an iPod or an iPhone" save for the aforesaid exception, which leads us to wonder how Apple will react. There's little doubt that this factoid sweetens the Pre value proposition for diligent Mac users, but is this functionality kosher with the software's creator? We already saw Tim Cook glance sternly at Palm while uttering that if anyone else "ripped off its intellectual property, it would go after them," and we highly doubt he plans on backing down if push comes to shove. If true, this could definitely trigger an interesting chain of events -- we'll know soon enough, now won't we?
