Nexus One gets USB host driver from a dude with an oscilloscope (video)
Posted on June 4, 2010 | No CommentsFor Sven Killig, running Android 2.2 wasn't enough. No sir, this dude wanted even more power for his Nexus One, so he went ahead and penned a few lines of code that have allowed his Googlephone to act as a USB host. As a result, he can now do cutting edge stuff like plugging in USB keyboards and webcams, as well as more useful things like watching movies off USB sticks or connecting to a monitor via a DisplayLink USB-to-DVI adapter. All these features are demonstrated in the video after the break, and you'll find the downloadable binaries at the source -- Sven expects them to work on Android 2.1 as well.Continue reading Nexus One gets USB host driver from a dude with an oscilloscope (video)

AT&T iPhone tethering to cost $20 a month extra, requires you to ditch your unlimited data plan
Posted on June 2, 2010 | No Comments
Gather round, everyone! It's time for this week's edition of "Good news, bad news" -- only this week, "bad news" is being supplanted by "terrible news".
The good news: As we touched upon earlier, AT&T has finally confirmed that iPhone tethering will launch this summer.
The badterrible news: You'd have to be pretty crazy to bother with it. -
Wii remote used to control Windows Phone 7 app (in emulator)
Posted on June 1, 2010 | No Comments
So this is kinda cool. At the ReMix Australia event today, some dude used a Wii remote as an accelerometer for an app running on the Windows Phone 7 emulator.
There aren't many details available beyond that. It seems that WM Experts found out about it by watching a Twitter hashtag, so it's anyone's guess, really.

The best Lost rant on the Internet
Posted on May 12, 2010 | No Comments
I already made my feelings known about last night's Lost. It was pure garbage and didn't answer a damn thing besides the fact that the writers are clearly taking the easy way out. I read a bunch of rants online today expressing the same feeling but this one by Jacob Hall on SciFi Squad is the best. Seriously. He nails it.
**Major spoilers ahead**

Dude, you’re getting a Dell and a Sony Reader
Posted on March 31, 2010 | No Comments
The details are simple: buy a select Dell notebook or desktop and a Sony Reader Pocket Edition ships along with it for no additional cost. It's actually a nice little deal although it's only for two days. Of course like with most sales, the actual cost savings is minimal as the sale price is likely inflated to included the cost of the ereader, but that's fine. Ereaders tend to be something the consumers are curious about and are unwilling to pull the trigger just yet. Getting more ereaders in the average joes that buy Dells might help the whole industry.

PAX East 2010: In which we talk to a dude wearing a WWE belt for some reason
Posted on March 26, 2010 | No CommentsOK, so PAX may be crawling with people dressed as Chris Redfield and, um, Generic Skimpy Outfit Female, but it takes a certain kind of geek to walk around with a WWE championship belt. I use the word “geek” with all due respect, of course: we're all geeks here at PAX.

Some dude unboxes his VFFs and shows off his horrible scars
Posted on February 24, 2010 | No Comments
I'm a big VFF fan so I wanted to share this real-life VFF tryout with you but oh my sweet merciful fates the dude's website is called My Achilles Rupture which is pretty much the most disgusting thing ever, especially when he shows the scars from his freaking rupture. A rupture! Gah! On his tendon! GAH!

Android update after next likely to be codenamed “Gingerbread”
Posted on February 9, 2010 | No CommentsAs any good Android-obsessed geek should know by now, Google’s made a tradition out of alphabetically naming their firmware builds after sweets. Android 1.5 was “Cupcake”, v1.6 was “Donut”, v2.0 is “Eclair”, while the next release will be lovingly dubbed “Froyo”. “But what comes after that?!” you say from the edge of your seat. According to [...] -

If that sounds like you, Carl, then get $14 ready.

Introducing a program to produce all valid Ikea Train set configurations
Posted on January 20, 2010 | No Comments
If you're a parent, you know that kids love them some wooden tracks. I'm serious. Kids could would totally spend hours whining about tracks and then, when they get them, refuse to play with them. That's why I love Ikea's wooden train set which costs like $10 and can make a few nice configurations.
But how many configurations can you make? According to this dude you can make nine permutations, shown above. In fact, with four extra curved pieces you could create 130 permutations which is quite a treat.

The World of Warcraft movie is *so* early in development
Posted on January 19, 2010 | No CommentsMore white-hot World of Warcraft movie news to share with y'all. Did you know that it's in production? Of course you did; you have a pulse. But did you know what stage of production it's in? Hmm, did ya, smart guy?

You’ve been working on your music career for 13 years now. Take things to the next level by purchasing a higher-quality microphone. You know, one with an XLR input. Ask any touring musician about microphones. They’ll all be like, “Dude. XLR all the way. You have to spend more than $5 on a microphone if you want to get a record deal. That’s how they keep the riff-raff out of the music business.”
