ThinkPads pass mil spec test for rugged computing

We all know ThinkPads are pretty great. They're rugged, easily upgradable, and fully-featured. Now you can even freeze the buggers or push them around in the dust. Lenovo's ThinkPad X200, X301, X200s, X200 Tablet, T400, T500, R400 and SL300 machines just passed Mil Spec tests for "semi-rugged" computing which means you can use them in extreme conditions for all of your computing needs.

CrunchDeals: Sony DVP-SR200/B Progressive Scan DVD Player

Don't scoff at this, friend. There are still millions of citizens of this great nation who have not and will not switch to Blu-ray or HD DVD (it's still around if you look hard enough). Therefore, I offer Amazon's lightning deal for the next couple hours. I'd be quick about it, though.

  • Don’t go to Circuit City for deals

Don’t go to Circuit City for deals

I started this rant last night and kind of realized it didn't make much sense. However, eagle-eyed reader SteveJabs headed down to CC and confirmed my suspicions: there are no deals to be had at Circuit City.
I thought I would meander over to the City of Circuits today and see what all was going down with this "blowout selling." As predicted they are screwing people over on many things but I decided to highlight on the two biggest I found right away. The first one I noticed when I walked in was the following, it is an EVGA 512Mb Geforce 9600 GT card. It is priced at $229.99 with 10% off making it an even $270. That raised flags to me. Hell, you can buy a GTX 285 for less than $100 more on Tigerdirect. Anyways, here attached is the picture backing this up. And here is the same damn card on B&H for $132.50

  • Any luck at Circuit City liquidation sales yet?

Any luck at Circuit City liquidation sales yet?

Now that Circuit City retail locations are ran by liquidation scum, there are bound to be a few deals. Sure, most of the big ticket items have been marked back up to their MSRP but there has to be a good deal or two available. My old Circuit City location (3631) was more busy over the last weekend than during the '08 Holiday Season. So did anyone score a good deal or two? Maybe a cheap in-dash DVD player or a pair of Polk Audio speakers? Anything? Nothing?

  • WTF are up with all these super duper thin HDTVs?

WTF are up with all these super duper thin HDTVs?

By raise of hands, who else thinks that all these anorexically thin HDTVs are dumb? LG's latest set measures only 6.5mm thick and Sony's isn't that much more thick. (pictured) Who the hell cares Though? Why is HDTV's latest cockfight over TV thickness? This also applies to Blu-ray/DVD players too, btw.

    Toshiba 2009 CES Press Event

Poor Toshiba. While every other major CE player is introducing 4th and 5th gen Blu-ray players, Toshiba is still ignoring the winning format. The company does, however, have some nice flat screens coming out in 2009 with widgets powered by Intel and Yahoo that's going to work nicely with Windows Media Center. The rest of the mundane are simply too mundane to be worth your time. Oh, how about CELL TVs?

  • Review: Addonics USB NAS adapter

    Review: Addonics USB NAS adapter

We mentioned the Addonics USB NAS adapter in mid-December, and I've just finished playing with a review unit. As you can see from the photo, this thing is small! There's a lot to say about this simple little device, so read on for the whole scoop! It's got a USB port, an RJ-45 port, and a small socket for the power cord. Along one side are two status LEDs, and a reset button. It would be great if this thing could be driven by Power-over-Ethernet, but I don't suppose many home switches and routers include that feature yet. The power adapter itself isn't too big, and is thankfully not a gigantic wall-wart.
