Kindle DX failing out of Darden Business School

According to Ars Technica, Darden Business School students are unhappy with the Amazon Kindle DX in terms of academic usefulness. That's not to say that they're down on the DX in general: there's pretty high support amongst Darden students for the DX as a personal e-reader. It's just not quite the classroom supplement that Darden administration had hoped it would be.

Time for E-ink: Seiko announces the first active-matrix watch

Here's an interesting little tidbit; Seiko just announced that they are going to producing the world's first active matrix e-ink timepiece. That's right, a wristwatch that uses e-reader technology to display the time. Could we be looking at the next LCD display technology?

    Review: enTourage eDGe dualbook

To say that the enTourage eDGe dualbook is "just an e-reader with a bolted-on netbook" (or vice versa) is to pretty dramatically miss the entire point of this thing. The eDGe exists in a category all by itself, because it does an awful lot more than just an e-reader or just a netbook. As a unique product, there are a couple of unfortunate shortcomings, but on the whole the dualbook represents an exciting glimpse at new ways to access and use technology and content. Devin pooh-poohed the eDGe recently, but I'm pretty excited about it.

Quick Look: Aluratek eBook Reader Pro

It's no Kindle, but at $149 the Aluratek eBook Reader Pro is a pretty interesting device. It comes with a 2GB card and includes 100 public domain books including Wuthering Heights and The Bible. It works with PDFs, ePubs, and Mobi files along with standard text files. The whole thing works quite well and it's a nice, small size, especially for an inexpensive e-reader. It's definitely a no-frills ereader solution but it may be good for folks who find ebooks online and not through the Kindle store.

Plastic Logic pushes the Que E-Reader launch back to mid-summer

Bad news and good news. You can probably guess the bad news if you read the headline. Plastic Logic has officially delayed the Que. You may recall that the Que was the one e-reader at CES 2010 that stood above the crowd thanks to its very thin casing and large screen. It was supposed to ship mid-April, but the company can't meet that deadline. The new shipping timetable is mid-summer.

T-Mobile gives an HTC HD2 reminder, now with more fun!

Last week, T-Mobile teased us all with a little jab on Twitter about the HTC HD2 that it will be shipping soon. It was exciting and, to be frank, it made me a little antsy. As promised, T-Mobile announced new features for the HD2 at Mobile World Congress today and I've gotta say, it isn't all that thrilling.

More pics of the Asus e-reader

While this will probably look primitive as heck in a few days, it’s fun to see Asus giving it their all in the ebook market. After all, we all need a 9-inch e-reader with a touchscreen in the end. Electricpig has a few more photos, but at this point these things are probably on the edge [...]

Study: Internet radio reaching 32% of households, e-readers are hot

L.E.K.’s Media Consumption Survey polled over 2,000 consumers, asking them about their general media “diet,” from ereaders to online video. The results? Ereaders are big, older folks are into the Internet, and online radio is finally reaching the mainstream. Most of this isn’t huge news but the statistics are pretty striking. For example: 32% of users listen [...]

Asus getting into the e-reader game in a big way

Asus leaked some information recently about their upcoming e-reader, the DR-570. Not content to be a "me too" with the standard black and white e-ink product, it looks like they are going to be coming out with an OLED offering that might just kick the rest of the e-readers to the curb.

Vegas-bound! What to expect from CES

All of us at CrunchGear are prepping for the pain-fest we all know as the Consumer Electronics Show. For those not aware, every January, just after they've waddled away from the all-you-can-eat buffet called the Holidays, journalists, bloggers, and big box electronics buyers all head to Las Vegas for more of the same. This year we're doing a few cool things including a full live stream of our coverage right on the site thanks to our friends at LiveStream. We'll be running the stream 24/7 and we'll try to grab just about every major meeting and event we attend. However, I've just been going over our sources and have a few basic predictions for you on CES.
