EA Sports conducts survey to see what people think of Tiger Woods

EA Sports has been one of the last holdouts to stand by its sponsorship of Tiger Woods, the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series being one of the company’s more popular franchises. However, a recent survey seems to indicate that EA may be hedging its Tiger-themed bets a bit. One of the survey questions, in particular, is pretty straightforward: “Has the controversy made you more or less likely to buy a Tiger Woods related video game in the future?”

    AT&T drops Tiger Woods sponsorship

Gotta hand it to Bloomberg for this riveting one-sentence article written by two people. “AT&T Inc. is ending its sponsorship agreement with golfer Tiger Woods, company spokesman Michael Coe said in an e-mailed statement.” I don’t recall seeing Woods in any TV or print commercials for AT&T but he definitely had a few big, fat AT&T logos on his golf bag. The company still has Luke Wilson and the iPhone, so sleep easy, friends.

Conspiracy theory: Is EA setting up EA Sports MMA to flop in order to secure the UFC license later on?

Here's a conspiracy theory for you (someone call Jesse Ventura): is EA Sports MMA intentionally going to stink in order for EA Sports to lose the Strikeforce license and later acquire the UFC license? Let's see.

So EA Sports was right: Manny beats Miguel

Short and to the point: Manny Pacquiao beat Miguel Cotto in round 12 on Saturday night via TKO. So EA Sports' prediction was right in that Pacquiao won the fight.

Fight Night Round 4 (and everyone else on planet earth) predicts a Pacquiao win

I know something about MMA, but I know next to nothing about boxing. Yet even I can laugh about the latest EA Sports prediction, via Fight Night 4, that says that Manny Pacquiao will beat Miguel Cotto this weekend. I laugh because saying Pacquiao will win the fight is like saying the sun will rise in the morning. (Now watch Cotto knock out Pacquiao in the first.)

Video: First footage of EA Sports MMA

I'm over here watching the Strikeforce show on CBS and there's ads for EA Sports MMA all over the place. So I'm like, “hmm, maybe EA Sports has posted the trailer on its Web site yet?”

Don’t forget to see Fedor knock out Rogers, both of EA Sports MMA, tonight

Consider this a friendly reminder. Tonight at 9pm ET on CBS (in the U.S.; I'm sure there will be plenty of streams, though, which you can find on your own) two of the big stars from EA's upcoming EA Sports MMA video game will hit each other very hard. Fedor Emelianenko, the big Russian guy who could well be the best MMA fighter of all time (or is that Sakuraba?), will fight Brett Rogers, of whom I know nothing.

Strikeforce will be the ‘premier’ MMA league in EA Sports MMA

Strikeforce (UFC's closest competitor here in the U.S.) promotes one of the bigger fights of the year tomorrow in Fedor vs. Brett Rogers. It takes place in Chicago, which explains why EA Sports just held a press conference there to reveal more details of its upcoming MMA game, entitled EA Sports MMA. EA Sports says that Strikeforce will be the “premier” mixed martial arts league in the game, and that well-known referee “Big” John McCarthy will be in the game.

Apps of the Month: Best iPhone Apps of October 2009

100,000. That's the number of iPhone apps that have been approved to be sold on Apple's App Store. So how the hell do you decide which ones to buy? Well, you could surf through the App Store's featured list, but that means you're only buying the ones Apple wants you to buy. Or, you could scour through the App Store's Genius recommendations - which are still not perfect in my opinion. To help you with this problem, we're going to create a "best of" list of the iPhone apps we enjoyed the most each month.

The NBA starts tomorrow, and so does NBA Live 10’s Dynamic Season Mode

A little birdie, also known as an e-mail, tells me that EA Sports will flip the switch on Dynamic Season Mode in NBA Live 10 tomorrow. Well, for the Xbox 360 version; PS3 owners will have to wait till Thursday. This, of course, coincides with the start of the new NBA season, to be won, according to that same NBA Live 10, by the Cavs.

It was just a few days ago that EA Sports' NHL 10 predicted that the Pittsburg Penguins would win the Stanley Cup this season. Now it's the NBA's turn, with NBA Live 10 having predicted that, yes, the Cavs will finally do it and win it all. And then LeBron can finally leave Cleveland and go to the Nets!

Peter Moore: Yeah, disc-based games will go the way of the [insert extinct animal here]

Looks like EA finally understands what we've been talking about for a while now: that, in just a few year's time, we'll look back at disc-based media (here, video games) and be all, “Man, how quaint.” Peter Moore, who's the president of EA Sports (no minor position, that), called the disc-based distribution model a “burning platform,” and that companies are either staring in the face of “probable” death or “certain” death, depending on how they want to go about things.
