“Like”: Japanese venture begins accepting orders for new electric car
Posted on June 22, 2010 | No Comments
Japan's newest electric car isn't made by one of the nation's many major automakers, but sometimes it needs a venture to accelerate potentially positive developments in rather conservative industries. Boutique automaker Mitsuoka Motor has now begun accepting orders [JP, PDF] for "Like" [JP], a 5-seat electric car that's based on Mitsubishi Motors's i-MiEV (the Like was unveiled earlier this year).

Meguru: Japan’s bamboo-powered electric car (videos)
Posted on May 21, 2010 | No CommentsIt looks much like a rickshaw, but the so-called Meguru [JP] is more of an electric car than a human-powered cart. Jointly developed by Osaka-based Yodogawa and Kinki Knives Industries, the Meguru is powered by a lithium-ion battery that, once fully charged, offers a travel distance of 25 miles. The vehicle, which is actually registered as a car, reaches a top speed of 25mph.

Charry: Outdoor charging box for electric vehicles
Posted on May 3, 2010 | No Comments
One critical factor that stands in the way of electric vehicles becoming mainstream is the lack of charging stations once you're on the road with your e-bike or electric car. In the case of bicycles, 37km, for example (as seen in Panasonic's newest models), isn't a bad number for an assisted travel distance, but it's not enough for those really long trips.

Oh, so the Chevy Volt song and dance was for 12-year olds, it’s still not right
Posted on December 16, 2009 | No CommentsThis makes a bit more sense. Apparently the horrendous Chevy Volt dance routine that hit it big a few days back wasn't meant to be seen by me or you. It was wrote for 7-12 years and was shown during a webcast that involved 120 schools before the L.A. Auto Show. But of course everyone has a video cam these days and someone captured the event for the whole world to enjoy.
