Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon Spacemaster Orbital Watch: Some Watch!
Posted on June 18, 2010 | No Comments
ABlogtoRead posted a little bit on the Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon Spacemaster, a mouthful of a watch with some of the most striking styling I've seen in a while.
I got to see this piece back at JCK and was extremely impressed. Ball is famous for their gas tube lume and they cover their watches with the stuff. The expected life of the lume is about 25 years, at which point you can have a watchmaker replace it.

Team Fortress 2 – Law Abiding Engineer

Kinekt gear ring. It spins!
Posted on February 1, 2010 | No CommentsQuite possibly the coolest ring we’ve seen in a long time. Maybe ever. It might not be as functional as my bottle opener ring, but this gear ring from Kinekt Design will certainly be more entertaining. Made completely out of stainless steel, there are six internal gears than spin with the two outer [...] -

A new product being developed in London will help the deaf to hear, using vibrations which can be felt through the skin. While the technology is still rudimentary, it has exciting potential for people who are completely deaf or deaf and blind.

Apple Expanding iWork In The Cloud?
Posted on December 27, 2009 | No Comments
A year ago Apple launched iWork.com in beta, which allowed users of their office suite of applications to publish documents online. It's a light feature set compared to Google Docs and Office 10 - just viewing and commenting. But a job posting suggests Apple may be creating a true collaborative cloud based version of the iWork apps.
The job posting popped up on CrunchBoard on December 22. Apple is looking for a mid level engineer to "be part of the core development team" and "engage in an area from design to development" of a new javascript rich internet application for the iWork team:

The Ultimate iPhone Car Kit: Complete remote control via the iPhone
Posted on November 10, 2009 | No Comments
Is there anything the iPhone can't do? Sure you can store your files, add contacts, and play Civilization Revolution on it but did you know you could drive your car with it?
The lads from Engineer Awesome rigged up a Oldsmobile Delta 88 to run entirely by remote control and then created an iPhone app so they could drive the sucker with a few choice taps and swipes.

Build your own battery powered USB charger
Posted on November 2, 2009 | No CommentsApparently Monday is DIY day here at CrunchGear, as we have another project for you. Battery powered USB chargers are nothing new — but building one yourself, that's something different. Using a few components from your local electronics store and a 9v battery, you too can solder together your own little frankencharger.

Facebook App Developer To Apple: Tear Down This App Store Wall
Posted on August 25, 2009 | No Comments
Apple has been working overtime recently to right some of the App Store wrongs, led by none other than Senior VP Phil Schiller. And having exposed some App Store approval process secrets in its letter to the FCC, everything should be all hunky dory in the App Store now, right? Wrong.
It's hard to remember an app in recent memory that has been anticipated more than Facebook's new 3.0 version of its iPhone app. How do I know? You should see my Facebook inbox from people who have hunted me down knowing that I have it since I reviewed it. Unfortunately, I can't give it to anyone because it's a version tied specifically to my iPhone (so stop emailing!). It's been a week and a half since Facebook engineer Joe Hewitt submitted the app to the App Store, and the wait time frustration is not only getting to the users, but to Hewitt himself, as he made clear in a blog post tonight.
Simply put, Hewitt's post is a must-read because he makes a range of excellent points in a fairly condensed space. We'll simply highlight some of the larger ones.

Brando tests the limits of consumer behavior with folding credit card light bulb
Posted on August 4, 2009 | No Comments
I'd love to be a fly on the wall during one of Brando's product development sessions. This product, for instance, is a folding credit card-sized "light bulb" that appears to be nothing more than a little LED shining upward against some sort of translucent plastic.

Great article over at Edge Online for anyone interested in the early days of EA's John Madden Football franchise. Did you know that one of the first versions of the game was initially 7-on-7 due to memory limitations? Madden himself put the kibosh on that one right away, saying, "What’s this seven-on-seven? This isn’t football. If my name’s going to be on something it’s got to be 11-on-11."
When Android made its handset debut on the
