HTC Hero gets Android 2.1 update across Europe (update: nope, not 2.1 yet)
Posted on June 15, 2010 | No CommentsIt's been a long, painful, drawn-out process, but it looks like we're finally closing in on getting everyone with an HTC Hero around the globe covered with Eclair. The company's European outpost has just posted some details on its Android 2.1 over-the-air update for the 2100MHz 3G Hero sold in most of the continent (including separate builds for units in Nordic countries, Greece, and Ireland), so this should quite a lot of brewing discontent -- just in time for owners to develop a raging case of Froyo envy, that is. C'est la vie; time for a Legend, right?
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
Update: We've heard from our friends at CoolSmartPhone that this is just another minor update, amazingly -- not the 2.1 build that other Hero owners are enjoying. What gives, HTC?
Update 2: And now HTC has gotten in touch with us directly, describing a two-part (the first of which seems to have already begun) end of June release. See it after the break.Continue reading HTC Hero gets Android 2.1 update across Europe (update: nope, not 2.1 yet)

Come join us in singing the iPhone 4 pre-order blues
Posted on June 15, 2010 | No CommentsTag your tweets #preorderblue and we’ll see who has fought most valiantly against AT&T’s activation servers. In honesty, however, I don’t envy those poor folks tasked with keeping up with this onslaught. Not to put too fine a point on it, but is there any other phone that engenders this sort of mania? What did [...] -

Posted on May 4, 2010 | No Comments
HP gave up the details on their updated Envy today. Nothing too terribly exciting, they're sporting the latest in the Dual Core CPU, discreet graphic chipset and motherboards. More details after the jump.

Let’s welcome Palm to the land of the living dead
Posted on April 28, 2010 | No CommentsI’ve been bearish on Palm as a standalone platform since they launched last May and today the sadness-tinged chickens have come home to roost: Palm is now part of HP and, like the iPaq before it, the Pre and Pixi will slowly be subsumed into the company’s line-up. In fact, I couldn’t be happier for Palm. [...] -
Do the new MacBook Pros forgo raw computing power in favor of battery life? Yup.
Posted on April 13, 2010 | No Comments
Today's MacBook Pro refresh left a lot of us feeling, well, bored. The new notebooks aren't particularly powerful with dual-core Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs along with low-memory GPUs. They really aren't anything special compared to similarly-priced PCs. Numerous manufacturers offer a PC for around $2000 that comes with quad-core i7's, 1GB graphics card along with tons of RAM and a higher-res screen than what's in the new MBPs. It really seems that Apple didn't go with the most powerful hardware available to boost the projected battery life to previously unheard of levels.
Battery life is really the only compelling feature -- besides OS X of course -- in the refreshed MacBook Pros. Apple is claiming that the 15- and 17-inch can see between 8-9 hours while the smaller, Core 2 Duo-equipped 13-inch can rock for 10 hours straight. That's impressive even if Apple exaggerated those claims a bit.

More evidence of the HP Envy 14, Envy 17 and dm4 surface
Posted on March 26, 2010 | No Comments
HP has a spring refresh coming real soon and we might finally get a look at the Envy 14 and Envy 17 that's been rumored for so long. The Envy models, along with the dm4 from the other day's rumor, were found on the same sort of support documents that supposedly leaked the notebooks late last year. So here we go again, down the rabbit hole of rumors.

Mission to Mars simulated by 250 days in a sealed environment
Posted on March 22, 2010 | No Comments
Someone call Pauly Shore, because there's a new closed environment that'll need his madcap hijinks to stave off boredom and no doubt save the day. The Mars500 project, located in Moscow, hopes to simulate the experience of a manned mission to Mars. It's the mission to part that they're testing, and not the actual Mars part. It takes a long time to get to Mars, and once you start there's no pitstops. So a lucky group of international astronauts will be working together to see what's its like to live in 550 cubic meters for the better part of a year.

Mac pricing leak? Perhaps updated Macs are inbound.
Posted on March 17, 2010 | No Comments
In case you haven't noticed, the MacBook Pro line is starting to get a little stale with just a lowly Core 2 Duo CPU. Even the Mac Pro with it's Quad-Core Xeon isn't the fastest kid in town anymore with the six-core Core i7-980X making the rounds. Hopefully all this fuss concerning a supposed leak of new Mac pricing that's a bit higher than the current MSRPs foreshadows updates coming in the near future.

Farewell, T-Mobile BlackBerry Curve 8900; it was nice knowing you
Posted on February 4, 2010 | No CommentsIt seems like only yesterday that T-Mobile BlackBerry users were being treated to the Curve 8900 when they were feeling Bold 9000 envy. But alas, the glory would be short lived as it has reached the end of its life cycle. We’re sad to see it go, but we won’t miss it too much. After [...] -
Apple may or may not be testing USB 3.0 controllers
Posted on February 3, 2010 | No Comments
USB 3.0 is the future and, well, Apple likes to be on the edge of technology so it only makes sense that the company would be at least looking into implementing the new interface sometime real soon. After all HP is already shipping USB 3.0 in its Envy 15 series and that can't sit right with Apple fanboys. But all we know right now comes from a Digitimes report that basically states that Genesys Logic is denying reports that its providing Apple with controllers. So yeah, we don't really know anything.

USB 3.0 now shipping in HP Envy 15 notebooks
Posted on January 14, 2010 | No Comments
The HP Envy 15 is ushering in USB 3.0 by becoming the first notebook from a mainstream brand to offer the new interface. USB 3.0 will come standard on models configured with a Core i7 CPU and the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5830 GPU. The HP EliteBook will be getting the same treatment within the coming weeks. Exciting, I know.
