AT&T having data trouble in parts of Florida

We've been tipped off today that data services are down "in the Southeast," and AT&T is telling us now that the problems are restricted to Jacksonville, Gainesville, and the Florida panhandle -- and as of right now, there's no confirmed ETA for when the situation will be resolved. Here's the official statement we have from the company:
"Some AT&T 3G wireless customers in the panhandle, Jacksonville and Gainesville are unable to use data on their devices, but still have voice capabilities. Our techs are working to fix the problem and get to the root cause."
Is anyone out there having trouble?

Update: Our own Ben Drawbaugh says that he's been having intermittent trouble in Tampa since he first tried around 9AM ET, which is decidedly outside the "panhandle, Jacksonville and Gainesville" area that AT&T is quoting. Anyone else outside those areas having issues?

Selling out of a new device in one or two real stores is one thing — they generally only have 20 or 30 handsets to begin with. But running out of stock for your online storefront? That’s an impressive feat. With that said: If you were planning on running home from work today and ordering [...]

Android to get a Playstation emulator thanks to ZodTTD

We like ZodTTD. He's a dude who just gets stuff done. Back in the early days of iPhone jailbreaking, he found his niche in building emulators for the platform; within months, he'd ported over pocket friendly versions of the SNES, Genesis, N64, Playstation, while somehow finding time to build things like an iPhone version of the VLC media player. Now, after much demand by his fans, he's building things for Android. His first project? An as-of-yet unnamed Playstation emulator.

Essex Watches make some divers I could get behind

Mmmm... GMT! Essex is a German company that makes ETA divers on rubber straps and beautiful grains-of-rice bands. They're a little pricey - the standard three-hander is a little over $2,000 and the GMT clocks in at $2,545 - but they have a cetain 1970s aesthetic that I like. The watches are originally German and they're selling them online at Essex-Watches.com. Click through for press release.

Remember that DSi XL that's coming out next week? Well, I hope you didn't spend a bunch of money in the DSiWare store with your regular size DSi. Yep, turns out that you can't transfer games to your new hand-held. That really sucks.

Opera says Opera Mini for iPhone “100% compliant” with App Store policies (video)

We had a brief chat with Opera Software product analyst Phillip Grønvold here at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona yesterday. We inquired about the company's plans to submit an Opera Mini application for the iPhone / iPod touch in the near future, and also got a hands-on demo of the app in action. Unfortunately, Grønvold was unwilling to demo the app on video, but take our word for it: the browser really is very, very fast. Grønvold also declined to provide an ETA for the submission of the app to the App Store, but said it is very close to completion so it shouldn't take too long.

Verizon “Mobile Web” service currently down

    Filed under:

We've been getting a slow trickle of tips telling us that Verizon's Mobile Web service is currently down nationwide, with no ETA on a fix. That's Mobile Web, the featurephone service, not, you know, big-boy data, so chances are you're fine -- our various VZW smartphones are unaffected. (Although we did have a dropped call and some spotty voice quality on a DROID this morning -- ruh roh.) We'll let you know if we hear further.
